Title:                  Cost Accountant

Reports to:       Accounting General Manager

Location:          DMG MORI Manufacturing, Davis, CA (Hybrid: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote after 90 days)

Hours:              Mon-Fri 8 AM – 5 PM

Classification: Exempt

 This position has access to equipment and/or technology that is subject to U.S. export control restrictions. Hiring by DMG MORI must be made in compliance with applicable regulations.

 The Cost Accountant is responsible for cost accounting tasks such as inventory evaluation, machine costs, WIP evaluation, month-end closing, and other general cost accounting activities.

Essential Job Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.   • Month end and fiscal year end closing and post journal entries
  • Analyze actual manufacturing costs
  • Provide management with reports, study costs, and profitability
  • Support physical inventories
  • Create a workflow and manual of purchasing, inventory counting, and cost accounting for J-SOX auditing preparation
  • Correspond with shipping vendors and respond to inquiries
  • Review parts invoices and perform material analysis
  • Determine freight costs for each machine
  • Advise Production Dept. how to conduct inventory counting using MCFrame system
  • Determine the inventory amount by the deadline of the monthly end close
  • Reconcile raw materials, work in progress and finished goods inventory accounts
  • Analyze the variances between production costs and inventory counting results 
  • Establish project cost analysis and new methods to enhance accuracy throughout daily work process
  • Support accounts payable tasks as needed
  • Perform other related duties as required to meet the goals and objectives of the company and accounting department

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance related degree.
  • 3+ years of general accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • ERP system experience such as SAP, Oracle and Baan - preferred
  • Positive, driven, professional and solution oriented approach to daily workload
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP 
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills 
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills to include problem solving to research and analyze complex challenges 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

Work Environment

General office environment will be experienced. There will be periodic exposure to manufacturing environments which may present hazards such as noise, electricity, chemicals, heavy equipment, and other automated and manual machinery.

Physical Demands:

Frequent: sitting at desk utilizing computers and phones. 

Periodic: standing, walking, repetitive foot, leg, hand, arm, shoulder, and torso movements. 

Occasional: bending, stooping, and lifting
