Job DetailsJob Location: Gosiger Automation - Dayton, OH 45402As a mechanical designer the incumbent must perform ‘Essential Responsibilities’ with minimal direct supervision.  Incumbent shall be responsible for the complete mechanical design ‘Scope of Work’ for automation projects from pre-sale concept and budgets through detailed design and final project implementation.  This position is considered a Safety Sensitive position.   Essential Responsibilities: Pre-Sale team member roles include the development of workable automation concepts, creation of system design and layout concept drawings and preparation of budgets for the mechanical ‘Scope of Work’ of the program that includes: design and detailing labor cost purchased and fabricated content estimating assembly costs mechanical / controls interfaces   Post-Sale team roles include the timely definition, design and procurement of mechanical components and hardware required for the timely completion of the defined ‘Scope of Work’.  Primary mechanical design roles are outlined as:   Formal Design: Assemble pertinent facts and design performance criteria. Define performance attributes i.e., speed, space constraints, etc. Interact with controls engineers / integrate controls into designs. Complete detailed designs Define and procure cost-effective purchased components. Define and procure cost-effective fabricated details. Contact customers and/or suppliers for pertinent design information.   Mechanical Materials Procurement – In context of the defined ‘Scope of Work’: Quote and procure purchased components. Bid and procure fabrications and machined details. Issue orders and coordinate deliveries of mechanical items Coordinate, manage and develop supplier base.   Implementation Roles include/require: Coordinate / expedite the delivery of purchased mechanical components. Coordinate / assist the assembly of mechanical hardware and assemblies. Trouble shoot performance issues. Finalize ‘as built’ documentation.   Other Aspects: Support long-term resolution of field-service issues. Provide on-site field service support as required. Maintain division records and files in an orderly manner.   Based on business need, assists, supports and/or performs other job functions within department or other work areas within scope and ability. Qualifications Two-year mechanical engineering technology and/or mechanical engineering degree required, four-year degree preferred.    Five to ten years actual personal, hands-on experience in a mechanical design environment: Completing designs using AutoCAD and Solidworks software Designing automated systems based on industrial robots. Designing and sizing robot end-of-arm tooling Designing conveyor systems, material handling and pick & place devices to interact with robots. Working knowledge of cost-effective alternative machining and fabrication processes Demonstrated project management capabilities.   Personal characteristics required include: Excellent Personal / Interpersonal communication skills Ability to multi-task and set personal priorities. Initiative and a personal commitment to setting and meeting deadlines. Consciousness, thoroughness, and accuracy Ability to travel nation wide on shot notice up to 25% travel.   Desirable experience and qualifications: Experience in tool, die and fixture design. Machine tool set up and operation.
