Major Functions

 

The County of Volusia is seeking a Low Voltage Technician for the Facility Management Division located in Daytona Beach, Florida. This position is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing and replacing electronic systems in the County of Volusia facilities, structures and buildings with little or no supervision.

 

The candidate must have a strong technical background in access control and video imaging software, as well as having the ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and engineering drawings. The ability to work independently and in a team environment is required. Excellent customer service skills are essential to meet with Volusia County's customer service standards.

Illustrative Duties

  • Plans for installs, maintains, tests, and repairs electronic equipment.
  • Oversees and maintains electronic equipment and control devices.
  • Maintains repair part inventory.
  • Reviews electronic contract specifications.
  • Plans for integration of new electronic systems.
  • Plans for cable wiring and fiber optics installations.
  • Troubleshoots electronic equipment, repairs or replaces components as needed.
  • Keep records concerning electronic equipment.
  • Assists with Electrician duties.
  • Cross-trains with and assists other facilities personnel as needed.
  • Assists IT department with electronic planning, repair and cable installation.
  • Must be able to work on call and respond in emergency situations as needed.
  • May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Must adhere to federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

. 

Minimum Requirements

- Completion of the eighth (8th) grade and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in electrical maintenance and repair. Having met the minimum requirements, The preferred candidate will have a high school diploma and at least five (5) years of experience installing, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing electronic systems.

 - Electronic or electrical certification/license and/or experience with Gallagher access systems, ONSSI Ocularis technology, fire alarm systems and National Association Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards is a plus.
*Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • All the knowledge of the lower level trades workers.
  • Skilled in laying out jobs with cost and material estimates.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic circuit repair and replacement methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of access control and video imaging software.
  • Knowledge of other trade areas.
  • Knowledge of public address systems and software.
  • Knowledge of burglar systems.
  • Knowledge of Alerton an energy management software (Bac-talk).
  • Knowledge of intercom, Closed Circuit TV (CCTV), and/or Innovative Electronic Designs (IED) PA systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety procedures.
  • Able to supervise and/or train unskilled/semi-skilled personnel.
  • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and fellow employees.
  • Able to understand and interpret oral and written communications and instructions.
  • Able to troubleshoot electronic components and circuits.
  • Able to interpret blueprints, plans and technical specifications in accordance with National Electrical Code guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Able to adhere to all work-related safety rules & procedures.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.


ADA REQUIREMENTS:


Physical Demands: Medium to heavy work. Able to lift objects up to 50 pounds and perform strenuous and routine physical work to include continuous standing and walking. Ability to see, hear, bend, stoop, reach overhead, climb, grasp, lift, carry, pull, push, drive. Visual acuity (peripheral vision, depth perception, color, acuity) necessary to operate a motorized vehicle.

Environmental Demands: Inside and outside work. May require exposure to inclement weather (heat, humidity, cold, rain), hazardous conditions, chemicals, dust, confined spaces and poor ventilation.

Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend work orders, safety instructions, maps, blueprints, mechanical drawings, instructions, procedures, memos. Skilled in performing shop math, writing simple sentences, and relaying information, data and details to others.
