Job DetailsJob Location: Dearborn Administrative Center - Dearborn, MI 48126Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $79,305.00 - $111,266.00 Salary/yearCOMMERCIAL PLANS EXAMINER SALARY         Minimum:        $79,305 per year                                      **Position will typically hire at minimum pay and follow a step progression to maximum**                                                   GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for reviewing various major commercial and industrial building plans to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances. Responsibilities may include coordinating with developers to ensure compliance; guiding staff in interpreting building codes; reviewing plans and specifications; and coordinating plan review with other departments.   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (See reverse side for complete job description) Reviews various major commercial and industrial building plans and specifications for compliance with public health, safety, and other building codes and ordinances; coordinates meetings with individuals to recommend building plan changes to maintain compliance with codes and ordinances. Coordinates commercial and industrial building plan review with related departments to ensure timely completion of building projects Prepares reports outlining building plan review findings and recommendations; maintains plan review records to ensure accuracy. Coordinates commercial and industrial building plan reviews with developers, owners, architects and engineers for field code interpretation and site condition assessment. Responds to various inquiries from customers and staff, including: assisting staff in interpreting building codes for large commercial and industrial projects and buildings; assisting customers in preparing applications for building permits; and performing related tasks. Keeps up-to-date on technical developments through continued education to implement new plan review practices within the division. Trains plan review and building inspector staff and provides guidance on major commercial and industrial work plans. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings. QualificationsTRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field and 4 years of related experience; or, Associate’s degree and 5 years of related experience; or, all required certification(s) and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. LICENSING REQUIRMENTS: State of Michigan Act 407 Registration Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory completion of background check and a pre-employment physical and drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act
