Job Summary:

 

 Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision and values. In addition, the nurse director leads and manages all aspects of the nursing department(s):  delivery of nursing care, financial/resource management, quality of care, personnel management, service excellence and daily operations.   Ensure compliance with regulatory standards applicable to the assigned area of nursing practice.  

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

 

1. Demonstrates all key responsibilities and essential functions of the Registered Nurse for pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations.2. Demonstrates knowledge of CMS, The Joint Commission, and Quality Metrics in order to establish processes that meet educational requirements and compliance of staff.3. Demonstrates knowledge of EMTALA guidelines in order to establish admission and exclusionary criteria for pediatric, adolescents, and adults.4. Assist in establishing department goals and objectives in accordance with Decatur Morgan’s mission and the standards of behavioral healthcare.5. Demonstrates thorough working knowledge of all guidelines that affect hospital operations.6. Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the department in compliance with the budget and productivity standards.7. Oversees and Evaluates staff to meet the demands of Nursing service.8. Ensures quality audits and evaluations of patient care are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Shares information with staff to improve outcomes to improve processes as indicated.9. Demonstrates leadership and team building in daily performance.10. Functions as a liaison between community referral sources, court systems, physicians and other health care facilities.11. CPR certification

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:

  • Uses common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick
  • Understands technical information from reference books, manuals, nursing leadership journals etc.

 Reasoning, Mathematical and Language Development are indicative of the general level of development required to do this job.  Some, but not necessarily all, areas mentioned in this section will be included in this job.

 Reasoning Development:                                

Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Deals with several abstract and concrete variables.

 Mathematical Development:

Practical application of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, statistical analysis, in addition to basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division abilities.

 Language Development:          

Reading: Read scientific and technical journals, abstracts, and financial reports.  Records data via paper and electronic means. 

 Speaking:

Communicates verbally using effective voice tone, diction and medical terminology.

 Data:                           

Gathers, complies and classifies information about patients and other people.  Analyzes and interprets data to carry out operational functions of the hospital.

 People:                       

Speaking, hearing, talking with people to convey or exchange information.  Includes giving directions to physicians, staff, patients, families and/or visitors.

 Things:                                      

Manual dexterity: Use of body members or special devices to work, and perform functions pertinent to accomplishment of job assignment.

 

Education:  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.  Possesses a nursing license in good standing in the State of Alabama

 

Experience: Minimum of five years hospital clinical experience.  Minimum of two years in a leadership role such as charge nurse or team leader.
