Overview

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Radiology Director, and Radiologist.   The Nuclear Supervisor is Responsible for the efficiency and effectiveness for the supervision of Nuclear Imaging services. The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position.   Commitment to the delivery of competent patient care supported by lines of communications and coordination with physicians, patients and co-workers.  Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis.  Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

The Nuclear Supervisor will be available for emergency on-call procedures as required, or set forth.   Recognizes the need for control/assessment of pain for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible.  Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Responsibilities

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Use common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped. Understand technical information from supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals and labels. Use eyes, hands and fingers with skill. Work fast in an emergency situation. Effectively communicate with people when they are sick, handicapped, or nervous. Follow instructions exactly. Record information accurately.  Ability to care for patients of all ages. 

  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients
  • Operate advanced nuclear medicine imaging equipment
  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures using radioactive materials
  • Monitor patients during procedures for any adverse reactions
  • Maintain detailed records of procedures and radiopharmaceutical usage
  • Assist physicians in interpreting nuclear medicine images
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations related to radiation exposure
  • Educate patients on the procedures and answer any questions they may have
  • Calibrate and maintain imaging equipment
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnoses
  • Participate in continuous education and training programs to stay updated with advancements in the field
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure the accuracy of imaging results
  • Prepare reports summarizing imaging findings
  • Provide emergency care if a patient experiences a reaction to radiopharmaceuticals
  • Implement infection control practices to maintain a sterile environment

Qualifications

The Coordinator of Nuclear Medicine is a college graduate or equivalent with satisfactory completion of a formal Nuclear School of Medicine or equivalent.  CPR Certification required. Must have certification as Nuclear Medicine Technologist from the ARRT or Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) from the NMTCB.
