POSITION SUMMARY
The Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of DeKalb Preparatory Academy and is responsible for advancing the school’s mission, vision, academic performance, organizational effectiveness, and culture. The Principal leads all aspects of K–8 instructional programming while ensuring alignment to the school’s charter, Continuous School Improvement Plan, and strategic priorities focused on student achievement, Project-Based Learning (PBL), Audio-Visual Communications (AVC), and college and career readiness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Ensure high quality implementation of instructional expectations, including balanced instruction, standards, and formative assessment across all K-8 grade levels.
- Establish and maintain clear, consistent communications with parents, families, and community partners to receive input and feedback on the effectiveness of the school, to improve family engagement, and to resolve concerns.
- Anticipate and plan for staffing needs across elementary and middle school programs; meet all staffing timelines.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Continuous School Improvement Plans (CSIP) that aim to improve student performance at all grade bands.
- Observe and evaluate the performance of all employees.
- Supervise student and staff conduct and monitor their progress toward achieving specified goals.
- Establish a positive school climate that includes high expectations, interactive teaching, clearly defined goals and objectives.
- Implement procedures to ensure a safe and orderly school environment.
- Develop and manage a school budget according to established regulations and guidelines.
- Coordinate and align curriculum, instruction, and programming across the K-8 continuum to ensure coherent student learning experiences.
- Foster a unified school culture that honors both elementary and middle school developmental needs.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in educational leadership required; Specialist or Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership preferred.
- Minimum of six years of educational experience, including a minimum of three years of administrative experience preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience preferred.
- Experience leading or working in a K-8 or multi-level campus strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of standards, curriculum, and instruction across elementary and middle school grade levels.
- Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
- Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
- Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
- Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
- Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
- Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
