The primary purpose and function of the Relief Veterinarian is to provide preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of Pets. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety of pets, clients, and associates by using safe restraining techniques and maintaining clean treatment areas; obtaining relevant client information and maintaining medical records; educating clients about preventative care and pet health needs; providing professional and efficient service including prescribing and administering preventative care and diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries; communicating diagnosis and treatment plans effectively; ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws including controlled substance inventory; following state guidelines for veterinary assistants and technicians; and other assigned duties. Qualifications include ability to multi-task, strong communication and organizational skills, surgical skills, problem-solving, client service, intellectual ability, compassion for pet care, mathematical and computer skills, and management ability. Attitudes required include initiative, integrity, cooperativeness, flexibility, independence, and tolerance for stress. Special working conditions include confidence around various pets, ability to work more than 40 hours per week including weekends and evenings, ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to pets that may bite or scratch. Education and experience required: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent, license in good standing with state veterinary board, DEA license, and proven surgical ability.
