SUMMARY

As part of the maintenance team, the individual holding this position is responsible for identifying, diagnosing and correcting production machinery and equipment faults and failures, as well as maintaining the plant facility and plant facilities’ systems on a daily basis.  


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

•    Cooperate closely with other employees to help ensure all goals are met.

•    Troubleshoot and repair filling, capping, weighing, coding, case packing, palletizing and labeling equipment along with any other packaging equipment installed in the facility.

•    Ensure all production equipment is properly maintained in a state of operational readiness.

•    Communicate effectively and professionally with production lead personnel and management when production schedule cannot be met.

•    Function as an effective team player performing production line change-overs and startups.

•    Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance to equipment, facilities, and facilities’ systems.

•    Perform other duties as assigned or needed. 

•    Ensure that all product quality standards are met.

•    Ensure that all safety standards are met per OHSA requirements.

•    Ensure that all production standards are met 

•    Ensure that all sanitation standards are met.

•    Perform equipment and system installs and replacements.

MACHINES OPERATED AND MAINTAINED

•    All plant production equipment.

•    All plant mechanical systems.

•    All plant electrical systems.

•    Lathe, mill, welding equipment and any other shop equipment.

•    Forklifts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

This job has no supervisory responsibilities but is responsible in training others when applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.  A minimum of three years working as a line mechanic.  Ability and initiative to perform duties and responsibilities on his/her own without direct supervision and motivation.  Ability to multi-task is essential. Leadership experience and /or technical training in mechanics is preferred. Must pass with proficiency the Industrial Mechanic Aptitude test and Light Industrial Safety test.  Must possess ability to become forklift certified if necessary.  Must possess a current driver’s license.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees and management of the organization preferred.  Ability to communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, managers, customers and vendors.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must show proficiency in Microsoft 2010 Office Basics skills, including basic computer literacy, basic Word, and Basic Excel by passing relevant tests by 60%.  Must have ability to maintain and support preventative maintenance systems.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to add and subtract six-digit numbers and to multiply and divide.  Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement.  Must pass by 70% or higher the Industrial Math test.

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair. Must pass the standard company reading comprehension test.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
