Schedule:  Monday -Thursday

Hours: 5 AM – 2 PM; including holidays.

The work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Position Summary:

  • This position collects all biotechnology samples for the genetic gain of pedigree chickens. Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect blood samples from Pedigree birds to monitor bird health and diseases (25%)
  • Cleans and sanitizes sampling and blood testing instruments (15%)
  • Perform simple math as part of recording information according to instructions for sampling of pedigree chickens (50%)

Other duties, responsibilities, and activities:

  • These may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: move birds as required to other houses per house schedule; clean and disinfect the equipment and vehicles used in moving birds, supplies, or equipment on the farm; help laundry staff as needed; properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy; off-farm shopping for supplies; may travel to various farms for training and implementation of procedures when studies are being done with duration of 1 week at a time may be expected (10%)

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare:

  • The jobsite is a bio secure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 50 pounds, utilizing 2 Team Members, to move items such as bird coops; tools, such as pallet jack, may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 250 pounds such as stacks of bird coops. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Tools and Equipment: Tablet, Scanner, Pipette, Syringes, Vehicle, Pressure Washer
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, safety glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required. Ear plugs will be used as required. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Virocid, Lysol, etc.
  • Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy, and cold environments.
  • Safety: TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
