Job Summary

The Research Engineer - Proof of Concept Hardware will hardware prototype development and validation for Vertiv's advanced research initiatives. Transform theoretical concepts into working prototypes across power, thermal, and infrastructure domains. Drive innovation through hands-on development of next-generation critical infrastructure technologies.

This role reports to the Advanced Research and Technology Leader and is based in Delaware, OH. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead development of proof-of-concept hardware for research initiatives 
  • Build and validate prototype systems for new technologies including: Advanced power conversion systems, Novel cooling solutions, High-voltage DC implementations, Advanced materials applications 
  • Design test frameworks for prototype validation 
  • Collaborate with Research Domain Leads on hardware requirements 
  • Lead laboratory setup and experimental configurations 
  • Develop test methodologies for new technologies 
  • Document prototype designs and test results 
  • Guide technicians and support staff in prototype development 
  • Create technical documentation for technology transfer 
  • Support integration of various technology domains in prototypes

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in hardware prototyping and lab testing.
  • Hands-on experience with sensors, actuators, embedded systems, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to interpret schematics and CAD drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Travel:  10-15% travel for prototype development and testing activities
  • Physical and Environmental Demands:  
    • Laboratory and workshop environment 
    • Ability to work with various tools and equipment 
    • May require lifting up to 50 pounds 
    • Extended periods in laboratory settings
