The OHST Coordinator reports to the OHST Superintendent and the primary role is to develop and maintain effective safety, health and training programs, providing prescribed MSHA/OSHA training, ensuring a high standard of recordkeeping, and monitoring workplace safety through regular inspections within the OHST Department.

Specific Departmental Requirements

Compliance & Administration:

  • Ensures all safety related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA and OHSA requirements including Hazard IDs, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.
  • Develops and maintains safety and health standards in compliance with company, OSHA, MSHA, regulations, and appropriate risk procedures to protect the assets of the company.
  • Conducts regular safety and equipment inspections of work sites and informs supervisors of unsafe practices, conditions, and possible safety and health hazards. 
  • Maintains a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas.
  • Coordinates with and accompanies inspectors as they audit the operation from a safety and health perspective. 
  • Assist regulatory agencies and government representatives during inspections, audits, and investigations, ensuring timely provision of information and documentation while maintaining compliance with applicable laws and company policies. 
  • Represent the Company during regulatory visits, ensuring compliance while protecting the Company's legal, operational, and commercial interests.
  • Coordinates safety and health issues and reports. 
  • Maintains a close relationship with governmental regulatory agencies. 
  • Implements and ensures compliance with new rules and regulations. 
  • Follows up on recommendations and informs employees of work method changes.

Training:

  • Lead the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of comprehensive safety and health training programs that support regulatory compliance and continue improvement.
  • Facilitate MSHA mandatory training and site-specific inductions, fresher training and competency-based learning programs for employees and contractors.

Incident & Emergency Management:

  • Lead and facilitate risk assessment and risk management processes, ensuring hazards are identified, controls are implemented, and risks are effectively managed in accordance with Company standards and regulatory requirements. 
  • Lead or support incident management, investigations, root cause analysis, reporting, and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence. 
  • Respond to site emergencies as a member of the Emergency Management Team (EMT), providing leadership, technical expertise, and coordination during emergency incidents. 
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and participate in emergency response training, drills, and competency assessments for Emergency Response Team (ERT) members to ensure operational readiness. 
  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and oversee hazardous materials (HAZMAT) response, mine rescue, fire response, medical response, and other emergency services to maintain emergency preparedness and regulatory compliance. 
  • Evaluate emergency response capabilities through exercises, audits, and post-incident reviews, implementing continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen site emergency preparedness. 
  • Ensure emergency response plans, procedures, equipment, and resources are maintained, tested, and compliant with applicable MSHA, OSHA, environmental, and Company requirements.

Industrial Hygeine & Hazardous Materials:

  • Develop and deliver industrial hygiene and occupational health performance reports, highlighting compliance status, exposure trends, emerging health risks, and corrective actions to support informed operational decision-making and continuous improvement

Support:

  • Provide operational support and cross-functional coverage for the Physician Assistant and Site Security functions as required. 
  • Support contractor management, inductions, and compliance with Company safety standards and regulatory requirements. 
  • Coordinate contractor onboarding and verify compliance with site access, competency, and safety requirements. 
  • Assist operational departments to ensure contractors work safely and in accordance with Company policies and applicable legislation.
