EMS Skills Instructor:
Supports the primary instructor by presenting organized and structured skills sessions that expand the student’s classroom knowledge into hands-on skills practice and mastery of clinical procedures related to the Emergency Medical Technician Marketable Skills Award. 
 
This is a part-time position working 19 hours or less per week at an hourly rate of $30.00 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • 35% Team teaches during skills exercises and supervises student activity for safety and compliance. 
  • 35% Assists primary instructor by instructing small groups of students in various situations involving performance skills.
  • 15% Assists primary instructor with all facets of skills sessions and lab management including preparation and set-up of labs prior to class and clean up after class.
  • 5% Ensures equipment used for classes is in operable condition.
  • 5% Uses National Registry skill sheets to evaluate students.
  • 5% Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

  2. Places student success at the center of all decision-making.
  3. Adheres to college, Texas Department of State Health Services and National Registry policies and guidelines for practical testing.
  4. Communicates with primary instructor any issues and concerns regarding student performance.
  5. Provides accurate instruction according to National Registry standards.
  6. Embraces the community college mission and the faculty role of contributing to the technical and general education of students who will apply learning to the world of work and transfer their education to a university or the workplace.
  7. Assesses student knowledge, skills, and abilities regardless of how or where the learning and skills were acquired.

 Qualifications: 
  • Two year's work experience at equal or higher level for which instruction/testing is being administered.
  • EMS certification or license for State of Texas at equal or higher level for which instruction/testing is assigned.
  • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job.
  • Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of instruction, testing, and evaluation of students.
  • Knowledge of current national curricula, national accreditation, national registry, and requirements for state certification of licensure.
  • The work requires the ability to physically demonstrate required emergency medicine skills and techniques.  
This position requires three professional references. This position is considered a security sensitive position and will require a criminal background check.
