Job Description

The Department of Community and Family Medicine is seeking a Licensed Psychologist to serve as an embedded Integrated Behavioral Health Consultant within the UHLMC Medical Pavilion primary care clinic. The Department of Community and Family Medicine is home of the UMKC Family Medicine Residency program. The position will provide formal and informal education to UMKC Family Medicine Resident Physicians, UMKC Medical Students, and Department Attending Physicians. Additionally, the Psychologist in this position will assist in supervision of doctoral psychology students, predoctoral psychology intern, and postdoctoral psychology fellow.

  • Introduce patients to the role of psychologists in the integrated care setting using the biopsychosocial model.

  • Utilize appropriate screening assessment tools including PHQ-9, GAD-7 and others and use results to guide treatment plan.

  • Identify referral problem and provide evidence-based interventions appropriate for the medical setting.

  • Coordinate care with treatment team members, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse care managers, medical social workers, pharmacists, and community resources.

  • Provide brief interventions for patients including chronic pain management, diabetes management, stress management, depression/anxiety, smoking cessation, weight loss and others utilizing CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness-based approaches and other evidence-based approaches.

  • Serve as consultant on behavioral health issues to members of the treatment team both informally and through developing and presenting educational lectures and written materials to the team members

  • Assist in the behavioral science curriculum development and implementation for the UMKC Family Medicine Residency program.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology

  • License-eligible or Licensed Psychologist in the State of Missouri

  • Must have knowledge of psychological and medical terminology, the process of diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the theory and practice of psychotherapy and have basic research skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational ability, and social facility are required for the ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team, and to provide education to staff and in the community.

  • Must be able to demonstrate good independent judgment, adapt to new duties, and work in a changing environment.

  • Completion of training as directed through orientation and/or Leadership, Management or Educators in the established timeline for continued employment.
