Role Summary

The Reliability Engineer, Mechanical provides subject-matter expertise across all mechanical systems that support data center operations. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Operations Engineering, this role functions as a senior individual contributor within the Facilities Operations Engineering team, responsible for system reliability, lifecycle planning, technical standards, and engineering support during design, commissioning, operations, and change events. The position influences critical decisions through deep technical knowledge rather than formal people management.

Travel: Ability to travel up to 30% for project site visits and company gatherings.

Location: Denver, CO (3 days/week hybrid in-office role) strongly preferred (remote may be considered for exceptional candidates)

Compensation: $130K - $150K (Offers Bonus)

Essential Responsibilities

The Reliability Engineer, Mechanical provides lifecycle mechanical expertise, developing standards, validating designs, and supporting construction and operations to ensure high‑availability systems. The role oversees performance and reliability across cooling, hydronics, heat rejection, and controls, while shaping maintenance strategies and evaluating failure modes. It plays a key role in L0–L5 commissioning, validating integration logic and sequence‑of‑operations. The position partners with cross‑functional teams and vendors to implement upgrades, assess technical changes, and support incident reviews, risk assessments, and long‑term operational standards.

Design & Engineering Support

  • Review engineering designs, submittals, shop drawings, specifications, and sequence‑of‑operations for compliance with operational requirements

  • Evaluate mechanical topologies, load calculations, and system configurations for maintainability, resilience, and adherence to internal standards

Commissioning & Integration

  • Review test scripts and monitor integrated systems testing throughout L0–L5 commissioning phases

  • Validate mechanical system performance, ensuring correct response to control signals and operating modes

  • Document deficiencies and track corrective actions

Operational Reliability

  • Maintain mechanical asset models and perform failure‑mode evaluations to support predictive and preventive maintenance strategies

  • Collaborate with operations to interpret system data, review alarms, and resolve recurring issues

  • Lead mechanical contributions to root‑cause analyses and incident reviews

Lifecycle & Standards Management

  • Develop and update mechanical standards, preferred vendor lists, and component specifications

  • Assess equipment lifecycle performance and recommend upgrades or replacements to improve reliability and cost efficiency

Change Management & Technical Governance

  • Review mechanical system changes and validate associated risk assessments

  • Advise on operational impacts of proposed modifications

  • Support the development of SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs with accurate mechanical content

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • 7+ years of experience with mission-critical mechanical systems, including chilled-water plants, air-handling systems, heat-rejection equipment, and controls integration

  • The ability to work across engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations teams and make independent technical judgments in high-stakes environments
