General Purpose of the PositionÂ
Responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, overseeing the month-end financial close process, establishing and maintaining internal controls, reviewing monthly reconciliations and compiling and analyzing data to be used in the accounting, regulatory reporting and financial reporting functions of the Credit Union. This role requires multi-functional collaboration with other business leaders to resolve issues, implement and lead organizational initiatives; establish policies and procedures; and implement process changes to ensure the Credit Union operates efficiently, remains financially sound and adheres to relevant regulatory and GAAP requirements.  Â
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Oversees accounting operations including:Â
- Leading activities related to the month-end closing process, including journal entries, fixed assets, prepaids, and variance explanations.Â
- Managing the accounting for the Credit Union’s investment and derivatives portfoliosÂ
- Oversees accounts payable operations and ensures the Credit Union is meeting its obligations through effective vendor management, internal control structure, and adherence to the Credit Union’s policies and procedures.Â
- Generates financial statement and budget variance reportsÂ
- Ensures accurate preparation and timely submission of regulatory reports including Call Report (Form 5300), Report of Transaction Accounts, Other Deposits and Vault Cash (FR 2900), and US Census SurveysÂ
- Leads and mentors accounting personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Fosters a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth. Conducts meetings as necessaryÂ
- Responsible for proper structuring, maintenance, and reconciliation of all General Ledger accounts.  Â
- Assists with the annual budget process and leads the budget review meetings with various organizational leadersÂ
- Directs the development, enhancement and implementation of accounting policies, controls, procedures, and processes designed to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulations while also promoting operational efficiency.Â
- Responsible for researching compliance with new and existing technical accounting issues. This includes evaluating the applicability and impact of changes in accounting pronouncements and, when applicable, assisting in the implementation efforts of new accounting pronouncements.Â
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to support the Controller, Senior Managers and Board of Directors in making operational and strategic decisions. Coordinates data gathering with other departments as needed.Â
- Critical thinker who understands accounting processes, anticipates issues and related impacts, and identifies opportunities for improvement that can lead to process optimizationÂ
- Ensures all accounting activities are in conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable laws, regulations and Credit Union policies/procedures.  Â
- Maintains the financial records of, and produces financial statements for, the Credit Union of Colorado Foundation.Â
- Utilizes spreadsheets and other systems (data warehouse) to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Works with Controller to identify and implement process improvements.  Â
- Assists with departmental and organizational projects as directed by the Controller.Â
- Develops an overall understanding of the strategic and tactical operations of the Credit Union. This includes understanding the needs of members, employees and the Credit Union.  Â
- Provides excellent service by demonstrating courtesy and personal concern for members’ and coworkers’ needs and follow-up to ensure those needs are met.Â
- Adheres to all Federal and State laws and regulations applicable to the Credit Union, including the Bank Secrecy Act and OFAC.Â
- Responsible for compliance with the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA), the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and the Anti Money Laundering Act, including monitoring for such illegal activity as it applies to this position.Â
- Compiles data for auditors and examiners and provides explanations as necessary.Â
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.Â

RequirementsÂ
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEÂ
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, a minimum of seven years prior accounting experience with at least two years in a leadership position. Experience in the financial services industry is required; knowledge of the Jack Henry products (Symitar, ProfitStar) and Concur systems is desirable. CPA is required.    Â

- Technical knowledge of accounting and financial concepts, practices, procedures, and financial reports.Â
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and proven strong skill base in Excel. Â
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and financial analysis skills, a quick learner.  Â
- Understanding of related regulations, statutes, and filing requirements.  Â
- Ability to multi-task, work independently, and meet deadlines.Â
- Knowledge of the Symitar, ProfitStar, and Sage Fixed Assets, and Concur systems and other related computer applications.Â
- Ability to apply oral, written and interpersonal skills that develop member, employee and volunteer confidence, respect and trust in Credit Union of Colorado and develop cooperative relationships with all levels of employees throughout the organization.Â

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required.Â
