Job Summary:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in delivering a high-quality NCAA Division II sports medicine program at Regis University. This role provides comprehensive care to student-athletes, including emergency evaluation and treatment, injury prevention, rehabilitation, practice and competition coverage, and return-to-play coordination. The position ensures accurate medical documentation, billing compliance, and oversight of all required pre-participation and eligibility documentation (NCAA, RMAC, and institutional).

The Assistant Athletic Trainer also supports program administration, including budget assistance, inventory and equipment management, and facility operations, while maintaining strong communication with coaches, physicians, student-athletes, and families. As athletics serve as a visible representation of the University, this role promotes excellence through top-quality health care, exceptional service, and a commitment to student-athlete health and well-being.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Medical Care

  • Emergency Medical Care: Provide emergency medical evaluation, treatment, and injury triage to student-athletes during practice and/or competition. Design and fabricate protective equipment and apply appropriate taping/wrapping to support extremities and prevent further injury aggravation.

  • Follow-Up Medical Care: Provide daily follow-up care and evaluation of the injured/ill athletes and communicate with appropriate coaching and athletic staff regarding the status of injury/illness and participation capabilities. Work with the Regis Cares physical therapy program to provide post-op or complicated injury rehabilitation care. 

  • Medical Documentation and Billing: Document injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation of injured student-athletes. Maintain student-athlete pre-season paperwork, injury/documentation of therapy, medical billing requirements, and communication and Internet access hardware and software. 

Administrative Duties

  • Develop effective working relationships with student-athletes and liaise with athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health professionals. He/she must also possess exceptional organizational skills to support the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine

  • Monitor and Balance the Program Budget: Provide support to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in overseeing the budget responsibilities

  • Pre-Participation Exam (PPE) and Required Documentation Coordinator: Will oversee all necessary PPE and documentation. Will be the primary contact for parents and student-athletes regarding questions or concerns about required documentation. Required to process, collect, and document all PPE and forms necessary by the NCAA, RMAC, and Regis Athletic Department.

Professional Development:

  • The Assistant Athletic Trainer must engage in professional development. He/she is responsible for keeping up with current trends and developments. Must attend professional opportunities and classes, including but not limited to NATA, RMAC, and NCAA meetings. 

Fundraising & Promotion:

  • Participate fully in department fundraising activities, fundraising events, university campaigns, and special project campaigns. 

  • Promote the Brand of the Athletic Department and Regis University

Create an Atmosphere of Compliance:

  • Know and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the NCAA, the RMAC, and the Regis Athletic Department. 

  • Supervise and ensure that any assistants, other employees, and/or volunteers for whom you are administratively responsible comply with the policies, rules, and regulations mentioned above. 

  • Immediately advise the Regis compliance director if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field AND

  • Master's degree from an accredited university in Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, or a related field

  • NATABOC certified

  • CPR/AED certified

  • Colorado AT licensure eligible

  • 1-3 years of supervisory athletic training experience at the NCAA level, 3-5 years preferred

  • Broad knowledge of common prescription medications

Special knowledge, skills, abilities:

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. 

  • Ability to work with insurance companies to ensure prompt and accurate payment

  • Ability to follow University procurement policy

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are indoor and outdoor in all types of weather. Position will require weekend and/or evening work. Some local, regional, and/or national travel is required. Please note that hours worked may vary weekly to accommodate practice, game, and travel schedules. Flexibility in availability is essential to meet the demands of this role.
