In this position you will work on site at the Office of the Municipal Public Defender, at: 710 W Colfax, Denver CO 80204. This position will be 100% onsite from 8:00AM – 4:00PM with flexible work hours as needed.Ā

Who We AreĀ 

TheĀ Office of the Municipal Public DefenderĀ (OMPD) is a comprehensive, holistic public defender office that is client-centered, independent, and innovative in the representation of defendants who face jail time for municipal ordinance violations and traffic offenses, and municipal youth offenses. Many of our clients live with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and traumatic brain injuries and over half are experiencing homelessness or housing instability.Ā Ā

OMPD’s Client Support Team (CST) consists of four Peer Support Specialists, a Behavioral Health Navigator, and a Bilingual Outreach Case Coordinator whoĀ workĀ alongside attorneys in court daily, create re-entry plans with clients in jail, and connect clients with resources like shelter/housing, benefit enrollment, behavioral health treatment, and more.Ā The CST division serves as part of the defense team and are bound by the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct including rulesĀ regardingĀ attorney-client privilege and client confidentiality.Ā

What You'll DoĀ 

OMPD is seeking aĀ BilingualĀ Outreach Case Coordinator IĀ to provide case management services and resource navigation to the individuals OMPD represents in both Spanish and English.Ā Ā Ā 

Ā 

Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • ProvideĀ ongoing case management to clientsĀ toĀ assistĀ individuals in connecting toĀ culturally and linguistically relevantĀ behavioral health services,Ā shelter,Ā reentry services,Ā benefit enrollment, otherĀ desiredĀ resourcesĀ andĀ servicesĀ in both Spanish and English

  • Assess clients’ current resource/service connections, strengths, and current needs toĀ determineĀ bothĀ appropriate servicesĀ and/or programs and eligibility for services

  • Develop solutions with clients to resolve immediate or recurring problems and barriers to receiving and/orĀ participatingĀ in services orĀ programs

  • Work in close partnership with attorneys, administrative staff, and other Client Support Team staff as part of a holistic defense team

  • SupportĀ the defense team by being present regularly at court, specialty dockets,Ā and at OMPD’s officeĀ for on-demand,Ā in-personĀ client support

  • DeliversĀ resource navigationĀ and case management services in Spanish and English, interprets as needed for OMPD staff, and translates outreach/resource materials into Spanish

  • Visit clients in Denver jails,Ā partners with clients to create reentryĀ plans, and connect clients to servicesĀ and treatment to support their transition into the communityĀ 

  • Monitor and track client participation, follows up on any problems or issues that arise, and coordinates immediate support services such as transportationĀ assistance, clothing and hygiene needs, food,Ā and other servicesĀ Ā 

  • Complete all required documentation. Gathers andĀ maintainsĀ data for defense team communication and reporting requirements – including documenting client progress, client interactions, and updating case recordsĀ Ā 

  • Build professionalĀ relationshipsĀ and networks with community resources, serviceĀ providersĀ to increaseĀ access toĀ timely, relevantĀ service/resource connections for OMPD clientsĀ Ā 

  • Other duties asĀ neededĀ and assigned

In order to be successful in this role we are looking for someone who is fluent in Spanish and English. Please note that if you are selected to move forward your interview will be conducted in Spanish and English. If hired you may also receive a Bilingual Stipend. In order to receive your stipend you must successfully pass a Spanish verbal test.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge and experience with the Denver Criminal Justice system, court processes, public defense – including the role of the defense council

  • One to three years of experienceĀ deliveringĀ case management services in both English and Spanish in aĀ social services, homelessness, legal,Ā behavioral health,Ā or related setting

  • ExperienceĀ maintainingĀ an ongoing caseloadĀ ofĀ clients, including assessing needs,Ā creating case or treatment plans, and monitoring and documenting progressĀ Ā Ā 

  • Knowledge of Denver metro resources,Ā social services, andĀ behavioral health treatment and supports. ExperienceĀ navigating complex systems and servicesĀ Ā Ā 

  • Passion for and experience working with people experiencing marginalization, including people who use substances, people living with mental healthĀ conditions,Ā and peopleĀ experiencing homelessness

  • Experience with, and ability to work and communicate effectively both written and verbally, within a multidisciplinary team

  • High levelĀ of organizational skills and ability to autonomouslyĀ determineĀ necessary tasks and complete workĀ Ā 

  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusionĀ and languageĀ access

  • Skill in engagement techniques sufficient to be able to obtain and verify informationĀ with clients

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applicationsĀ andĀ data entry experience, including entering documentation into a case management system

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:Ā Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED,Ā HiSETĀ or TASC Certificate.Ā Ā 

  • Experience: One (1) year of experience supporting human services, social services, and/or public health programs.Ā 

  • AdditionalĀ appropriate educationĀ may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.Ā
