Your Opportunity

We are seeking qualified candidates for a Summer Engineering Internship to support the Energy and Resources business center as a member of the Hydro and Dams or Mining (Geotechnical) group. This is a terrific opportunity for a college senior/graduate student to support a number of exciting projects while learning important skillsets.

This position will sit within either the Hydro and Dams team or Mining (Geotechnical) team but would provide opportunities for exposure to both technical practices. Our Hydro and Dams team includes a multidisciplinary staff, including civil, geotechnical/geologic, and water resource engineers that specialize in the planning, analysis, design, and construction of water storage, water conveyance and hydropower projects including:

  • Embankment, Concrete & RCC Dams
  • Hydraulic Structures including Spillways and Outlet Works
  • Tunnels & Shafts for Pipelines

The Mining (Geotechnical) team specializes in investigation, analysis, design, and construction of active and legacy mine waste containment facilities. Key projects include: 

  • Tailings dam design
  • Geotechnical monitoring and analysis of active tailings storage facilities
  • Reclamation of legacy tailings facilities and other inactive mining facilities

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing proposals, including project scheduling, and developing cost estimates.
  • Assisting in project administration including writing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports.
  • Performing simple calculations, computer data entry, along with some exposure to CAD, GIS, GeoStudio, RocScience Programs, and Bluebeam.
  • Assist in writing technical documents such as calculation packages, geotechnical data reports, design reports, and specifications.
  • Support field investigations and the assessment of subsurface conditions by reviewing drilling and test pit logs, in-situ testing data, and other pertinent field documentation.
  • Support geotechnical material characterization and interpretation of material properties for design and analysis using laboratory and field data.
  • Performing research and contacting vendors for information.
  • Develop familiarity with regulatory agency requirements, technical design standards, and industry standards and guidelines

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
