Insurance and Claims Counsel

The Insurance and Claims Counsel provides strategy, guidance and execution of executive line and cyber claims.  Using legal background and expertise, this role stays apprised of current legal trends and provides consultation and advice to clients, Producers and internal teams. This position will be based in our San Francisco, CA, San Diego, CA, or Denver, CO office.

Position responsibilities
•    Responsible for handling large volume of executive line claims, including D&O, E&O, Cyber, Crime, and Employment Practices. Responsibilities include:
o    Guide clients through claims process and assist with accessing carrier resources
o    Analyze coverage and oversee and ensure timely reporting of claims 
o    Respond to coverage issues, strategize, and advocate effectively on behalf of Lockton clients
o    Advise and consult with clients and internal constituents on coverage issues concerning executive line and cyber claims
o    Advise and consult with clients about the claim process and potential insurance solutions
•    Review executive line and cyber policies and specific wording for coverage gaps and potential issues, consult with clients and internal constituents regarding same
•    Research current trends in law that pertain to executive and cyber line space and our clients’ insurance programs
•    Draft whitepapers and other educational presentations concerning executive and cyber lines
•    Accumulate required continuing educational credits to maintain current insurance and legal license
•    Represent Lockton at client meetings and external events
•    Prepare written correspondence, analyses, reports and memos as needed
•    Make a positive contribution to customer satisfaction and constantly strive to improve service to the customer
•    Communicates in a positive manner to contribute to a cohesive, pleasant work environment
•    Protect the confidentiality of information learned by performing the duties of the position; reinforce the importance of confidentiality of information to all department associates
•    Performs other job-related duties as assigned
 

Position qualifications
•    Law Degree required.  Bachelor’s degree in a business-related program or equivalent education and/or experience required. CIPP a plus
•    Five plus years of experience as an attorney with an insurance company, law firm or other corporation. Experience handling insurance coverage matters or litigation a plus 
•    Understanding of the overall business, operations, and commercial insurance needs of clients
•    Executive level presence to interface with top management of other businesses, representing Lockton in the highest professional manner
•    Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills 
•    Consistent proven ability to organize and manage time in order to meet time-sensitive deadlines
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
•    Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to interact with clients and associates at all levels of responsibility, building strong internal and external client relationships
•    Proven leadership and problem-solving skills, including resolving unusual and complex internal and external issues
•    Proven leadership skills with the ability to understand, communicate with, find solutions for, deserve respect from, and motivate others
•    Must have the ability to travel by automobile and aircraft and be away from home more than one day and night
•    Legally able to work in the United States

This position may be eligible for annual discretionary bonus consideration.
