Process Engineer – Oil & Gas

Ready to move beyond supporting someone else’s designs and start taking greater ownership of your engineering work?

CANUSA EPC is looking for a Process Engineer II to join our growing engineering team. This role is ideal for an engineer with 3–6 years of experience who has built a strong technical foundation and is ready for the next step—more responsibility, greater exposure to clients and projects, and the opportunity to see designs move from concept through execution and into the field.

At CANUSA EPC, you won’t be limited to one small piece of a project. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, project managers, designers, clients, and other engineering disciplines to develop practical solutions for projects within the oil, natural gas, energy, and chemical industries.

You’ll perform detailed process engineering, develop simulations and design documents, participate in design and safety reviews, and have opportunities to support commissioning and startup in the field.

What You'll Do

As a Process Engineer II, you'll take an active role in executing process engineering deliverables while continuing to grow your technical expertise and project responsibility.

You will:

  • Develop process engineering studies, Basis of Design documents, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Build new and update existing process simulation models using tools such as BRE ProMax and AspenTech HYSYS.
  • Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Heat & Material Balances (HMBs), and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Perform equipment, valve, and piping sizing calculations and develop associated specifications.
  • Perform Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) sizing and calculations with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Review vendor drawings, calculations, and technical documentation for compliance with project requirements.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) meetings and help implement resulting recommendations.
  • Work directly with project managers, engineers, designers, vendors, clients, and operations personnel throughout project execution.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and help identify practical engineering solutions.
  • Conduct field surveys and site walkdowns to gather information and verify existing conditions.
  • Provide engineering support during commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and operational improvement activities.
  • Support junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Assist with proposals, engineering estimates, and other business development activities.
  • Maintain CANUSA EPC's safety, engineering, and quality standards throughout project execution.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an engineer who is technically capable, curious, and ready to continue developing into a well-rounded process engineering professional.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Approximately 3–6 years of relevant process engineering experience. A master's degree may account for up to two years of experience.
  • Experience within the oil & gas, natural gas, energy, petrochemical, or chemical industries.
  • Working knowledge of process engineering calculations and design documentation.
  • Experience with process simulation software such as BRE ProMax and/or AspenTech HYSYS.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations, including API, ASME, and DOT requirements.
  • Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to engage senior engineers and other disciplines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation or active progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Previous EPC or consulting engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting field commissioning, startup, or troubleshooting activities.
  • Experience working directly with clients, operations teams, or vendors.

This Role May Be a Great Fit If You...

  • Want exposure to more than one phase of engineering projects.
  • Enjoy solving real-world process problems rather than performing the same calculations repeatedly.
  • Want to work directly with senior engineers and continue developing your technical expertise.
  • Like having a mix of office engineering and occasional field exposure.
  • Are comfortable taking ownership of your work while collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Want a role where you can continue progressing toward a Senior Process Engineer level.

Travel & Field Work

This position is primarily engineering-focused but includes occasional travel to client offices, project sites, field locations, training, and industry events.

Candidates must have:

  • A valid driver's license.
  • A valid passport.
  • The ability to travel between the United States and Canada as required for project and business activities.

Why CANUSA EPC?

At CANUSA EPC, our engineers have the opportunity to work across disciplines and throughout the project lifecycle. You'll gain exposure to challenging projects, experienced technical professionals, clients, vendors, and field operations while continuing to develop the skills needed to advance your engineering career.

We value engineers who ask questions, take ownership, collaborate well, and want to understand how their designs actually perform in the field.

If you're ready to take the next step from early-career engineer to a more independent and technically confident Process Engineer, we'd like to hear from you.
