Department Details

Blood Bank specific responsibilities include preparing blood components for patient use.

Prepares packed red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma, platelet concentrates, and cryoprecipitate following AABB and FDA standards. Regularly prepares recovered plasma for shipment. Packs plasma according to manufacture's specifications and completes shipping records. Restocks and rotates blood products daily. Performs weekly and monthly inventories, documents daily, weekly and monthly maintenance, and quality control. Other duties include record keeping, filing, faxing and making copies.

Must be able to learn and utilize new technology as blood banking procedures change. Must understand the use and limitations of the blood bank instrumentation and equipment. Must demonstrate proficiency in the component laboratory.

Hours vary between 7am-10pm. Mostly evenings.

Experience preferred but not required. Will train.

Summary

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, collecting, preparing and processing specimens biological specimens.

Job Description

Assists in performing laboratory activities and other assigned tasks. Aids in preparing laboratory specimens and supplies. May be responsible for entering laboratory orders and results. Ensures the accuracy and quality of laboratory data in a safe and professional work environment.

Qualifications

High school diploma or General Educational Development Diploma (GED) preferred.



Completion of a formal phlebotomy program, phlebotomy experience, and experience in a laboratory-related field preferred. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
