As an Operations Engineer, your priority is not just to handle the operational events and maintain our Service Level Objective (SLOs)/services but also to try to stop it from happening again. If you cannot stop it from happening, you will minimize the efforts needed to handle it by expanding our boundaries and learning new technologies as you go and use those new technologies as a team multiplier.

Google's network provides services to millions of Internet users around the world. Our metros are on the edge of our network where Google connects to its users. The Network Team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. Our team owns the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s data centers and metro points of presence globally. From the foundation, we are involved from site acquisition to construction and are accountable for what space and power is delivered. We're involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $150,000-$218,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities:

  • Act as a first responder for faults and outages on Google's production network.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network issues to restore service and maintain network health.
  • Perform root cause analysis on network incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Identify opportunities for and contribute to the development of automation and tooling to improve repair times and reduce manual effort.
