Freese and Nichols is seeking a Stormwater Team Manager to join our Denver Denver, CO office. The Team Manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervisory functions of the team, including achieving assigned key focus indicators (KFI) and other goals, client service, project execution and quality, and employee engagement. The Team Manager will lead complex flood resilience projects in our growing Denver office. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in InfoWorks ICM, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS (1D/2D) with strong project management experience. This role represents the opportunity to mentor and develop junior staff and contribute to the continued growth of our Colorado business. 

Major Accountabilities:

Growth

  • Develop and maintain client relationships (including internal clients) and manage sales activities to support the long-term health and growth of the team. Achieve sales goals deployed to the team by the Group Manager (GM) or in the amount required for the long-term health of the Team.
  • Work with the GM, other Team Managers in the group, Practice Leaders, and Account Directors to support growth and client initiatives.
  • Work with the GM and respective Practice Leader(s) and National Technical Leader(s) to implement practice growth and national technical excellence goals.
  • Support the group’s client management strategies, management of opportunity pipeline, prepositioning for strategic pursuits, and reviewing/preparing SOQs and shortlist presentations.
  • Support Client Reps in representing all practices and the group, not just those of the team

Leadership and Management

  • Work with the GM to develop a vision for the long-term growth of the team that is consistent with the FNI Strategic Plan and Group’s Annual Operating Plan (AOP). Through the GM, provide input to practice plans.
  • Meet assigned KFI goals. Identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Work with GM on the implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Support the GM in the development of a group annual operating plan to include actions for the team and prepare an annual team budget to roll up to the group budget. Prepare updates and analysis of improvement areas as requested.

Staff recruitment, development, and retention

  • Promote and personally demonstrate our FNI LEADS values and lead staff in the team using LEADS as the foundation.
  • Perform supervisory functions for the team working with the GM including recommendations for staffing, training, interviewing, new employee selection, dismissal, performance appraisals, classification changes, salary adjustment recommendations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Support the GM through the Individual Development Plan (IDP), goal setting and performance review processes, as well as regular discussions with staff, develop staff in the team for more responsibilities consistent with the path they identify in their IDPs.
  • Identify and develop potential successor(s) to the Team Manager, and key technical leaders within the team. Mentor staff as part of succession planning. Partner with the GM and Human Resources (HR) Business Partner to focus on team’s HR needs, including disciplinary actions within the team.

Project Delivery

  • Serve as Project Manager on projects utilizing HEC-RAS (1D/ 2D) and InfoWorks ICM modeling, including oversight and review of modeling work 
  • Work with Project Managers to ensure projects are meeting budgets and schedules, client expectations, FNI Quality Management System requirements, and technical standards.
  • Work with GM to forecast workload and maintain appropriate staffing levels and qualifications of staff.
  • Work with GM to manage team overhead expenses related to staff engagement, annual planning, client development, staff development, and marketing.

Collaboration with others outside the group

  • Regularly coordinate with the GM for best practices, work-sharing, and other collaboration opportunities. Work sharing is critical to the health of the team, Group and the Practice and is a key success factor in FNIs system. Coordination on work sharing should also include checking in on team performance and client service.
  • Regularly coordinate with appropriate Practice Leaders and Lead Technical Professionals (LTPs) to ensure synchronization with practice initiatives.
  • Coordinate with the GM on office space assignments and needs.

Technical

  • Team Managers should maintain a minimum personal utilization of 60% through project management, quality review and Senior Advisor work.
  • Oversee the team’s implementation of the Quality Management System.
  • Review and approve quality plans prepared by PMs in the group to ensure deliverables are appropriately defined and quality control reviewers have adequate time allotted for identified QC reviews.
  • Support/empower FNI Technical Leaders assigned to the team to drive the success of the Technical Leader program and national technical excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of experience with emphasis in technical design, project management, personnel leadership, and management, and organizational leadership. Experience in the consulting industry is strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of client service, relationship building, sales, and technical project delivery.
  • Professional Engineers license

The annual salary range for this position is $134,000-$201,000 and is dependent on candidate's qualifications as compared to minimum and preferred requirements.  Candidates with more experience than required could be eligible for a different job.
