Position Summary

The Forming / Press Brake Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all press brake and forming operations within a precision sheet metal manufacturing environment. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production while driving continuous improvement, meeting customer specifications, and supporting on-time delivery goals.

Key Responsibilities

Production Leadership

  • Supervise daily operations of press brake and forming departments across assigned shift(s)
  • Assign work, monitor workflow, and adjust priorities to meet production schedules
  • Ensure adherence to production targets, throughput goals, and on-time delivery requirements
  • Coordinate with production planning, engineering, and other departments to resolve scheduling or capacity issues

Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop press brake operators and forming personnel
  • Conduct training on equipment, processes, safety, and quality standards
  • Perform performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and attendance management as needed
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Technical Oversight

  • Oversee setup and operation of CNC press brakes (e.g., Amada, Trumpf, Bystronic, etc.)
  • Ensure correct tooling selection, setup, and programming for optimal performance
  • Review and interpret blueprints, work orders, and geometric tolerances
  • Troubleshoot forming issues and support operators with technical challenges

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure parts meet customer specifications, tolerances, and quality standards
  • Partner with Quality to resolve nonconformances and implement corrective actions
  • Promote first-piece inspection and in-process quality checks
  • Drive reduction in scrap and rework

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all safety policies, including proper machine guarding and PPE usage
  • Conduct regular safety audits and address hazards immediately
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA and company safety standards

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement productivity, efficiency, and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Support lean manufacturing practices (5S, Kaizen, standard work)
  • Optimize machine utilization, setup times, and workflow layout
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs)

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical degree preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in precision sheet metal forming/press brake operations
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of press brake setup, tooling, and forming techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Experience with CNC programming and machine controls

Preferred

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma training
  • Familiarity with automation, robotics, or advanced forming technologies

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing shop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and metal materials
  • Standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required
  • May require overtime or flexible scheduling to meet production demands
