Coalition Mission

The mission of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is to work collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for families, children, and individuals who are experiencing or at-risk of homelessness throughout Colorado.

Position SummaryThe Cook at the Stout Street Recuperative Care Center (SSRCC) supports kitchen operations by preparing and serving nutritious meals to residents in accordance with health and sanitation guidelines. This role contributes to a supportive and healing environment for individuals recovering from acute medical needs while experiencing homelessness.

 

Duties/Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Prepare and serve daily meals in alignment with dietary guidelines, health department regulations, and internal procedures.
  • Assist in meal planning and support menu development based on nutritional needs and resident input.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen and dining area, ensuring compliance with all Department of Health and Safety standards.
  • Order, receive, and store food and kitchen supplies; support inventory tracking and food rotation processes.
  • Monitor and report equipment condition and kitchen supply levels to the Manager, Food Services.
  • Attend required trainings related to food handling and safety.
  • Collaborate respectfully with SSRCC team and contribute to a trauma-informed, person-centered care environment.
  • Ensure timely & accurate use of all company systems as required while maintaining complete up-to-date records and any future upgrades as directed.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Job Competencies

  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Colorado Serve Safe Certification required within 30 days of hire.

 

ExperienceMinimum of 1 year of experience in food preparation or kitchen support.Prior experience working in a residential, healthcare, or nonprofit setting preferred.

Job CompetenciesKnowledge of food safety, sanitation, and nutritional standards.Ability to plan and prepare meals at scale in a commercial kitchen environment.Demonstrated ability to follow recipes, dietary guidelines, and food storage protocols.Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.Physical stamina and ability to perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced kitchen.

  • Driving Requirements: Reliable transportation is required to ensure timely arrival to assigned work location.
  • Language Requirements: Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
