Primary Objective:

 

The Machinist IV will work from drawings and/or written instructions, set up and operate a variety of manual or CNC machinery and equipment to produce precision parts.              

Major Areas of Accountability

 

  1. Operates multiple machines at multiple work centers and performs specific machinist functions. Must be able to set up and troubleshoot machines at multiple work centers.  

 

  1. Ability to prove out new part programs for production.  Collaborate with programming/engineering on blueprints and programs.

 

  1. Provides instruction, training and leadership to employees in other positions within the Machine Shop.  

 

  1. Verifies conformance of finished work to ensure compliance to tolerance and company specifications.

 

  1. Identifies dull or worn inserts or tools and makes changes as necessary.

 

  1. Makes tool offsets as required.

 

  1. Completes preventative maintenance as required.

 

  1. Regularly uses microscope and other high end measuring equipment to view and inspect parts.   

 

  1. Performs other related duties as directed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High school graduate; or
  • GED; or
  • BOCES Machine Shop classes; or
  • Skilled trade school graduate

Experience

  • 3 years of machine shop experience
  • Advanced shop math skills
  • Advanced blueprint reading skills
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience of CNC/ Manual machines  
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills 
  • Demonstrated experience in order of operations

This position requires access to “controlled technology” as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730 et. seq.) and “technical data” as defined in the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (22 C.F.R, Chapter 1, Subchapter M). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work.
