Food Service Host/Hostess

Overview

Full Time - 6:30am - 3:00pm with weekend rotation

Performs routine dietary services to patient care areas according to established quality standards. Consistently utilizes a holistic approach considering physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to age of the patients served in the assigned area. Serves, and stores food according to specified menu and dietary procedures. Performs proper cleaning and sanitation of foodservice equipment, and work area. Successful performance of this work will result in safe food to patients and guests of UPH. Provides exemplary customer service skills. Must be able to deliver, set up and serve food to patients, visitors and staff on a limited time schedule. Perform specified cash handling duties. Acts as a liaison between the patient, Food & Nutrition department and Nursing Services and attends to all patient food needs. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and all hospital staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service by assisting patients with meals, explaining diets, delivering trays, and responding to requests 
• Ensure patient and workplace safety, follow infection control and food safety standards, and maintain cleanliness of kitchens and pantries 
• Communicate with nursing staff regarding patient care needs and verify tray accuracy and completeness 
• Order, stock, and rotate food and supplies, maintain refrigeration logs, and manage inventory according to established par levels 
• Support training, follow service standards (AIDET), and perform other unit-specific duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Education:  

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent or currently enrolled in High School required.
