Vylor is seeking a Project Engineering Intern to join our Professional Internship Program for Summer 2027. This role provides hands-on experience supporting the design, renewal, and improvement of seed production facilities while working alongside project managers, engineers, contractors, and cross-functional partners.
Based in Johnston, Iowa, you will contribute to active engineering projects and gain exposure to facility design, project planning, field execution, and the processes used to deliver safe, reliable capital improvements. The internship may include travel to seed production facilities.
What You Will Do
- Project execution:Â Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing engineering activities for facility design, upgrades, renewals, and retrofits.
- Technical documentation:Â Prepare or update technical documentation, drawings, scopes, specifications, meeting records, and other project deliverables.
- Project controls:Â Support project budgets, schedules, risk tracking, and change-management documentation under the guidance of project leadership.
- Design coordination:Â Review contractor or supplier design packages and help confirm alignment with project requirements and applicable engineering standards.
- Field experience:Â Participate in site visits to observe construction activities, collect field data, document conditions, and support contractor coordination.
- Cross-functional collaboration:Â Collaborate with engineering, operations, safety, quality, procurement, and other partners to resolve issues and advance project work.
- Business communication:Â Communicate project progress, findings, and recommendations through written updates and a final presentation.
Qualifications
Required
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree in mechanical, agricultural, chemical, construction, civil, electrical engineering, or a related engineering field
- Enrollment at an accredited college or university during the academic term immediately following the internship
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently, manage assigned priorities, and collaborate effectively within a team
- Interest in facility design, construction, manufacturing, capital projects, or project management
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% during the internship
- Ability to meet the position's U.S. work-authorization requirements
Preferred
- Coursework or project experience involving facility design, construction management, manufacturing, process systems, or project controls
- Familiarity with CAD, Microsoft Project, data-analysis tools, or engineering-document-management systems
- Knowledge of Lean construction, continuous-improvement methods, or front-end project planning
- Previous internship, co-op, laboratory, design-team, or field experience in an engineering environment
