Overview

PRN- As Needed 7:30am-4:30pm ranges with school building start times

Provides school-based nursing care and care coordination for students and families, guided by ethical and evidence-based standards. Delivers direct care, manages chronic and acute health needs, responds to emergencies, and offers health education. Collaborates with students, families, school staff, and community providers to support a safe, healthy learning environment. Partners with program leadership to plan, implement, and evaluate school nursing services and policies, compliance with FERPA and state-required immunizations and health screenings, and ensures accurate documentation and continuous quality improvement focused on patient and family satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• • Works with families, physicians, and West Des Moines Community Schools. 
  • Uses the nursing process to promote positive health and development of students 
  • Assures all program-required health screenings are conducted. 
  • Provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process including pertinent and appropriate documentation.   
  • Exerts independent judgment, and maintains responsibility for the condition of assigned patients.   
  • Assures compliance with State mandated health requirements for school entry. 
  • Implements procedures for prevention of communicable diseases in the schools and alerts staff and parents/ guardians to health trends and issues. 

Qualifications

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program. 

License(s)/Certification(s):

• Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa .

Experience:

• One year of nurseing experience required.
• Pediatric nursing experience preferred.

Other: 

• Level 3 Medium Work:  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
