Supervises and directs the officers assigned to his/her shift andĀ assistsĀ in conducting surveillanceĀ so as toĀ provide a safe and secure environment within the buildings of the hospital and in the parking lots.Ā Ā

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Ā Ā 

  • Oversees all security officers' activities on assignedĀ shift,Ā make shiftĀ and duty assignments.Ā Ā 

  • AssistsĀ Director on hospital related investigations.Ā Ā 

  • Assists Director and Safety Office withĀ establishingĀ departmental goals, as well asĀ determiningĀ mannerĀ in whichĀ to best achieve goals.Ā Ā 

  • Performs daily, weekly,Ā monthlyĀ and annual paperwork duties, especiallyĀ with regard toĀ personnel matters of direct subordinates.Ā Ā 

  • Performs day-to-day security officer functions.Ā Ā 

  • Patrols the hospital, hospital grounds and parking lots so as to maintain a safe and secure environment.Ā Ā 

  • Initiates investigations into incidents or activities of criminal nature andĀ submitsĀ appropriate informationĀ to law enforcement agencies as directed.Ā Ā 

  • Assumes responsibility for proper inventory, pickup,Ā transportĀ and storage of patient valuables and after hour patient deposits.Ā Ā 

  • Maintains storage and records of lost,Ā foundĀ and stolen property of visitors,Ā patientsĀ and employees.Ā Ā 

  • Controls loud or disorderly patients or visitors and summons police toĀ assistĀ if necessary.Ā 

  • ProvidesĀ accurateĀ directions, information, and, if necessary,Ā escortĀ to the public.Ā Ā 

  • Provides traffic control, as needed.Ā Ā 

  • Operate required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position.Ā

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:Ā Ā 

  • Performs simple maintenance on parking lot equipment (i.e., clears personnel ticket dispensers, replaces broken gate arms).Ā Ā 

  • AssistsĀ with the movement of patients as requested by nursing staff.Ā Ā 

  • Keeps Director advised of all personnel matters of appointed subordinates.Ā Ā

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,Ā SKILLSĀ AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Ā Ā 

  • High school degree or GEDĀ required.Ā 

  • Associates degree preferred.Ā 

  • 2-3Ā yearsĀ security supervisory experience or related experience.Ā Ā 

  • Valid Driver’s/Chauffeurs LicenseĀ required, must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.Ā 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.Ā 

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.Ā
