Location: Detroit MI
Pay: $20 - $26 per hour
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Full-time, including evenings and weekends as needed

About the Role

At The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center, every donated item helps fund programs that provide hope, recovery, and support to individuals rebuilding their lives. The Production Assistant Supervisor assists the Production Supervisor in managing warehouse staff specifically designated for production, supports activities associated with budgeting and financial efficiencies, production, and work therapy assignments.

What You'll Do

Production & Warehouse Operations

  • Assisting in the supervising of all production within the warehouse including baling and compacting.
  • Support the implementation of Product Control Procedures preventing shrinkage through theft or spoilage.
  • Work with vendors to ensure rag and bulk sales are handled efficiently and at a profit to the center, taking care to work to meet the bottom line.
  • Ensure daily inventory is maintained with the total provided.

Financial & Inventory Management

  • Support management of warehouse budgets and production-related expenses
    • Help control operational costs while maintaining service and production standards
    • Coordinate purchasing of production supplies and inventory according to organizational policies
    • Monitor commodity and bulk sales activities to maximize profitability
    • Support accurate inventory tracking and financial accountability

Safety, Property & Equipment Oversight

  • Ensure that the warehouse is being run in accordance with OSHA Safety Guidelines and meets all TSA Policies.
  • Work with Production Supervisor to coordinate and report all repairs to property and equipment through proper channels.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Helps ensure and maintains adequate staffing levels to meet all areas of production. This includes supporting the Production Supervisor in recruitment, hiring, and training of production staff.
  • Prepare and administer corrective action and disciplinary notices in accordance with TSA policy.
  • Promptly forwards all employment related paperwork to the HR Department at the ARC.
  • Cultivates a positive team environment including maintaining a diverse work force.

 

What You Need

Education & Experience

  • Two years of management experience, including production scheduling, supervision, recruiting, and team leadership
    • Experience in warehouse, production, logistics, recycling, commodities, or related operations preferred
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience considered

Required Certifications

  • Forklift certification required
    • Forklift trainer certification preferred
    • Valid driver's license preferred

Essential Skills

  • Strong leadership and team development abilities
    • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, leadership, vendors, and program participants
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel skills preferred
    • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced warehouse environment
    • Knowledge of inventory control, production processes, and workplace safety practices

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds
    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
    • Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing as needed
    • Close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a warehouse environment with moderate to loud noise levels
    • Environment may be dusty and subject to changing temperatures based on weather conditions
    • Full-time position that may require evening and weekend hours
    • Attendance at assigned training sessions required
