Job Summary:
Provide skilled nursing care to patients and perform stress tests under the direction of physicians within the Cardiology/Internal Medicine field.Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Triage stress test requests for appropriateness and safety
- Perform exercise and pharmacological stress testing
- Demonstrate basic understanding of cardiac hemodynamics
- Recognize and interpret arrhythmias and heart block abnormalities and electrocardiographic changes which occur in myocardial ischemia/infarction
- Demonstrate understanding of the indications for artificial pacemakers, mechanisms, normal function, signs of malfunction, and ECG patterns
- Demonstrate understanding of pharmacology and drugs which affect cardiac function
- Demonstrate understanding of common forms of invasive cardiac diagnostics
- Perform I.V. administration and vital sign measurements
- Demonstrate understanding of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation through American Heart Association
- Perform and document in the electronic medical record
- Assist physicians with or coordinate patient treatment, procedures and surgeries
- Perform venipunctures, IV therapies and injections according to physicians’ orders or patient emergencies
Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training:
- Associate Degree in Nursing
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
- Current Michigan Registered Nurse License
- Current BLS Certification
- 2-4 years’ experience in an ambulatory care setting, preferably in Cardiology
- Knowledge of nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care
- Knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, JACHO and HIPPA regulations
- Knowledge of Public Health Code and Michigan Nurse Practice Act preferred
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Good written and verbal communication skills to convey and receive information effectively (face-to-face, telephone and electronic)
- Good analytical and judgment skills
- Ability to use computer software programs and systems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel and/or financial data
- Excellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks and manage time
Safety Requirements:
- Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures
Working Conditions/Schedules:
- 40-hour workweek
- Hours and days to be determined by the business needs of the department
- May require on-call duty and the ability to work outside of scheduled work hours when the need arises
