Job Description
We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support large-scale commercial electrical construction projects throughout the Detroit metropolitan area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 2+ years of construction experience who wants to develop their skills and build a long-term career in electrical project management.
Working closely with Project Managers and field leadership, the Project Engineer will assist with project coordination, procurement, scheduling, cost tracking, documentation, and field support from project startup through final closeout. Projects include hospitals and healthcare facilities, higher education campuses, industrial facilities, institutional buildings, and other technically complex commercial developments.
This is a hands-on role offering exposure to all phases of commercial electrical construction, with a clear advancement path into Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager positions.
Responsibilities
Support commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction and project startup through final closeout.
Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, transmittals, procurement logs, and closeout documentation.
Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and other project documents.
Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, electricians, subcontractors, vendors, and general contractors.
Track material procurement, equipment deliveries, long-lead items, and critical project milestones.
Assist with project schedules, cost tracking, forecasting, billing, and budget management.
Attend project meetings, jobsite visits, and field coordination meetings.
Work with BIM/VDC teams to identify coordination issues and support constructible field solutions.
Maintain accurate project records, meeting minutes, reports, logs, and document control systems.
Support field teams by providing timely project information and helping resolve construction and coordination issues.
Assist with identifying and documenting scope changes and additional work.
Help resolve procurement challenges, scheduling conflicts, material issues, and other project needs to maintain progress.
Requirements
2+ years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or electrical construction.
Experience with an electrical contractor, specialty contractor, or commercial subcontractor is strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and construction documentation.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction schedules.
Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with both project management and field personnel.
Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines across active projects.
Willingness to visit jobsites throughout the Detroit metropolitan area.
Experience with healthcare, hospitals, higher education, industrial, institutional, or other complex commercial projects is a plus.
