What this job involves

The PlumberĀ is responsible forĀ inspecting,Ā maintaining, repairing, and replacing plumbing systems and components across assignedĀ schools and support facilities. This position responds to routine and emergency work orders involving domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, restrooms, kitchens, water heaters, piping, valves, traps, fixtures, and related equipment. The Plumber works collaboratively with Maintenance Area Managers, school administrators, GDI personnel, vendors, andĀ DistrictĀ representatives to keep facilities safe, sanitary, code-compliant, and ready for instruction and community use. This position requires strong troubleshooting skills, sound independent judgment,Ā accurateĀ documentation, and professional service in occupied school environments.Ā 

QualificationsĀ 

  • Current Michigan journey plumber license required for work that must be performed by a licensed plumber;Ā additionalĀ licensing or endorsements are preferred where relevant to assigned duties.Ā 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship or equivalent training preferred.Ā 

  • DemonstratedĀ experienceĀ troubleshooting, repairing, andĀ maintainingĀ commercial or institutional plumbing systems; school-facility experience preferred.Ā 

  • Working knowledge of plumbing codes, tools, materials, fixtures, piping systems, drainage equipment, and safe work practices.Ā 

  • Ability to read plans, diagrams, equipment documentation, and work-order information and to use mobile or computer-based maintenance systems.Ā 

  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, andĀ customer-serviceĀ skills.Ā 

  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to pass required background and drug screening.Ā 

  • Ability to work independently, travel among assigned facilities, andĀ participateĀ in scheduled on-call or after-hoursĀ coverage.Ā 

Physical Requirements & Working ConditionsĀ 

  • Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, withĀ assistanceĀ or mechanical means used for heavier items.Ā 

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in confined or elevated spaces for extended periods.Ā 

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and in mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, restrooms, kitchens, and other active school environments.Ā 

  • Regular exposure to water, noise, dust, odors, chemicals, sewage-contaminated materials, and other conditions typical of plumbing maintenance;Ā requiredĀ protective measures must be followed.Ā
