Description
The Light Duty Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining gasoline and diesel-powered light-duty vehicles while delivering repairs that meet manufacturer specifications and Kerry Brothers' quality standards.
This position requires strong diagnostic abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to efficiently complete repairs while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance services including oil changes, filters, fluid services, and scheduled maintenance
- Diagnose engine performance, drivability, and electrical concerns
- Perform brake system repairs and replacements
- Diagnose and repair steering and suspension systems
- Replace shocks, struts, control arms, ball joints, tie rods, and wheel bearings
- Diagnose and repair cooling systems
- Repair fuel delivery systems
- Diagnose and repair charging and starting systems
- Perform battery testing and replacement
- Diagnose and repair HVAC systems
- Perform exhaust system repairs
- Replace timing components, water pumps, and accessory drive components
- Perform driveline repairs including U-joints, CV axles, differentials, and transfer cases
- Diagnose transmission concerns and perform minor transmission repairs
- Perform state inspections (where applicable)
- Utilize OEM and aftermarket diagnostic equipment
- Document repairs accurately in the shop management system
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Communicate repair recommendations with service advisors

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of automotive or light-duty repair experience preferred
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Experience using scan tools and diagnostic software
- Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine systems
- Experience with brake, suspension, steering, and electrical repairs
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Basic computer skills for documenting repairs
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE Certifications
- State of Michigan Certifications
- Diesel engine experience
- Fleet maintenance experience
- Air conditioning certification (EPA 609)
- CDL (or willingness to obtain)
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Experience with Ford, GM, Ram, Isuzu, and medium-duty commercial vehicles
