Job DetailsJob Location: Main Work Location - Detroit, MI 48226Position Type: Part TimeThe Youth Activities Event Assistant is a flexible, engaging, and patient person with excellent people skills and a passion for kids. This position serves as the assistant to the Youth & Family Activities Coordinator. Possible duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to assisting to coordinate youth and family events and programs, registration services at events, connecting with vendors, event setup & teardown, prep for events, and assisting with activity planning. The Youth Activities Event Assistant is a part-time, year-round employee, reporting directly to the Youth & Family Activities Coordinator and the Director of Catering and Special Events. The Youth Activities Event Assistant’s goal is always to provide a memorable experience that exceeds expectations. He/she preserves and promotes the unique culture of the DAC known for service excellence and goodwill among members, guests, and staff. Duties/Responsibilities: Assisting with the set-up for all youth and family events, including vendor load-in, centerpieces, favors, event check-in, and tear-down after the event. Coordinates creative ideas for year-round youth and family programs, including birthday parties. Meets and greets members and their families, promotes facilities and services, and answers family and youth-related programming inquiries. Welcomes all feedback, including complaints, and works with the Youth & Family Activities Coordinator to determine a remedy to the issue. Assists with compliance with all Club rules and policies. Adheres to all attendance standards of the Club and works varying schedules to reflect the business demand of the position. Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Youth & Family Activities Coordinator and other senior management. QualificationsRequired Skills & Attributes: Must be able to communicate professionally and efficiently execute member's requests and events to the highest standards and establish and maintain effective relationships with members, children, club staff, and management. Be able to anticipate the needs and wants of members by being prepared and organized while acting with a sense of urgency. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as it aligns with club programming and is based on Club events. Excellent time-management skills, detail-oriented, and strong follow-through. Ability to establish, maintain, and interact effectively with members, guests, and staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Must be able to efficiently handle multiple tasks concurrently and provide excellent member service. Self-motivated, accepting, and adapting to change in a constant and necessary path for involvement and growth. Awareness and respect for the ambiance, history, culture, taste, and expectations of the members and guests of the Detroit Athletic Club. Ability to read, write and speak the English language fluently to interact with members and guests. Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Bachelor's degree in any area of hospitality, education, physical education, child development or related field strongly preferred, but not required. Prefer experience in one or more of the following: event planning, relationship management, customer service, childcare, athletic or year-round camps, recreation or other family or youth-related field. Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in an upscale club or hospitality industry setting is strongly preferred. Educational background in child development or recreation management is preferred. American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard, preferred however not required.
