New England Sheets, an affiliate of Schwarz Partners, and corrugated manufacturing industry leader currently has an exciting opportunity available for a Controller in Devens, MA.  The Controller is responsible for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company.  The Controller monitors the financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to the strategy and ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report financial results. The Controller is responsible for maximizing financial returns by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Oversee the financial operations and issuance of financial information.  Compile accounting transactions into accurate financial statements.  Manage cash flow to ensure all liabilities are paid on time.
  • Protect assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls. 
  • Complete all audit requirements, both internal and external audits.  Coordinate annual audits.  Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate findings and recommendations.
  • Prepare budgets or any additional reports by collecting, analyzing, summarizing information, trends, and consolidating financial data.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.  Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
  • Ensure the company complies with federal, state, and local tax requirements.
  • Manage all accounting staff by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
  • Contribute to the management team to accomplish stated objectives and goals.
  • Maintain financial IT systems to protect the financial information.
  • Work with other controllers to establish best practices.
  • Complete all informational requirements from the corporate office.
  • Ensure a safe and productive work environment.
  • Assist in formulating company’s future direction and support tactical initiatives.  Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team.  Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans and manage the capital request and budgeting processes.
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Maintain fixed asset – Depreciation solutions.
  • Manage cash flow; month and year end closing in pre-determined timeframe for consolidation at the Sheet Feeder Group level.
  • Prepare information for partnership board meetings and participate with General Manager and Leadership from Sheet Feeder Group
  • Regular and predictable attendance and ability to work flexible hours or extended hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • 5 years managing financial / accounting department.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in accounting or business administration or CPA license preferred.
  • Knowledge with Microsoft Great Plains accounting software preferred.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Possess a high degree of accuracy and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office; advanced level in excel program.
  • Excellent time management skills and well-organized.
  • Must be able to successfully lead the team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, grasp, reach, push, twist, climb, bend, use of keyboard and 10-key, lift at least 50 lbs. as required by the job.

 

WORING ENVIORONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions.  Employees may be exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration.  The noise level in the plant work environment is usually loud.
