Position Overview: 

The W.A.Y Aftercare Program works with youths transitioning from the residential treatment center. The Counselor will develop and maintain relationships with youths and families and ensure they receive comprehensive services in the community while participating in Aftercare services. The Counselor will work along side the fair futures coach, service providers, community members and other stakeholders. The W.A.Y Aftercare Program utilizes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy as its clinical model and foundation. DBT is an evidence-based approach which is user friendly and adaptable to the individual based upon skillset, need and level of trauma. DBT is also adaptable and integrates well with a variety of other clinical models, making it an ideal format for families who are working on maintaining reunification and integrating within their communities. 

Position Qualifications:

Possession of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university or a New York State registered four-year college or university. Prior relevant experience in social service, mental health or child welfare field preferred. Valid Driver's License. Excellent computer skills and writing skills required. Must demonstrate understanding of the issues facing Black and Latino adolescents. Ability to work as a member of a team and can be independent when necessary. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with youth and staff. Demonstrate ability to effectively use a multi-cultural approach in working with special needs youth.
