Salary Range: $130,000 – $180,000 / year (dependent on experience, education, and skill set)
About the Role
Seeking a senior Database Engineer (Level 3) to provide high-level technical leadership in database architecture, dataflow engineering, and enterprise information storage and retrieval in Fort Meade, MD.
In this role, you will direct database engineering activities across the full lifecycle—from front-end requirements synthesis through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC). You will lead the design and development of relational and Object-Oriented database structures, direct custom parser and loading software implementations, and balance complex architectural trade-offs regarding data scale, concurrency, physical/logical distribution, performance latency, data retention, and classified security domains.
Key Responsibilities
Direct and lead the design, development, and deployment of relational and Object-Oriented database structures integrated into overarching enterprise architectures.
Oversee the development and optimization of custom database parsers, loading utilities, and data ingestion pipelines.
Lead architectural trade-off evaluations across data volumes, concurrent user loads, logical/physical distribution, query latency, retention policies, and security domain controls.
Direct the translation of complex business and technical requirements into optimized database schemas, tables, views, and data structures.
Oversee the authoring and maintenance of complex SQL queries, scripts, macros, ODBC integrations, and master data files.
Direct cloud-based database storage and retrieval implementations utilizing modern distributed methodologies.
Establish and drive short- and long-term technical roadmaps for database administration, system optimization, and capacity planning from project inception to delivery.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with a current Polygraph.
Experience & Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution plus at least 10 years of Database Engineering experience on programs/contracts of similar scope and complexity, OR
15 years of relevant Database Engineering experience without a degree (5 additional years substituting for the degree).
Architecture & Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading and directing database architecture design, schema modeling, information storage/retrieval, and dataflow optimization.
Software & Pipeline Development: Proven capability leading the development of custom database parser tools, data loading software, complex queries, and data manipulation scripts.
Full-Lifecycle Execution: Hands-on experience directing requirements fulfillment and data architecture from initial concept through system acceptance testing and IOC.
