Service encompasses all aspects of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indian’s governmental operations and tribal preference talent. Every employee shares the responsibility to provide exemplary service, dignity, and respect to all Tribal Citizens, the Tribal Council, and staff members. To this end, all employees have an obligation to identify and report any service problems, issues, or concerns and through designated channels, initiate, recommend, and actively participate in solutions. 


Position Summary: Responsible for engaging the citizen (and other preference candidate) population to understand their career goals and position desires to connect them with employment within the Pokagon entities. Responsibilities include reviewing and system administration of preference pool database, reviewing open requisitions across all Pokagon entities, and engaging with preference candidates and Human Resources teams across each Pokagon entity. 


Essential Functions:

    • Responsible for development and system administration of the Pokagon Preference Pool (P3).
    • Reviews P3 to identify and evaluate qualified candidates for open positions in partnership with each Pokagon entity.
    • Respond to inquiries from preference talent on open positions or career pathways.
    • Assist with connecting Citizens to Governmental resources, programs, or services based on need.
    • Understands and can communicate the total rewards packages, programming, and developmental opportunities within each Pokagon entity.
    • Provides a high level of customer service in working with preference applicants and assists in efforts to develop qualified candidates. 
      • At the request of candidates, this could include: assisting in completing the online application for the P3 and/or through the Pokagon entities individual career sites, assisting with resume creation/revisions to make it more applicable to the desired role, and assisting with interview preparation or practice. Requests from Four Winds employed candidates shall be referred to the Tribal Development Program.
    • Establishes, cultivates, and maintains ongoing relationships with preference candidates not currently employed with Pokagon entities with the goal of connecting them with positions they are qualified for and/or recommending training to gain employment with a Pokagon entity.
    • Advises preference candidates on preference types recognized at each Pokagon entity and ensures they are connected with the appropriate contacts for any questions regarding their application status or preference eligibility.
    • Works collaboratively with Human Resources Teams.
    • Executes recruitment plan by reviewing open requisitions from each Pokagon entity and connecting well-qualified preference candidates from a variety of sources to Pokagon entities. 
    • Manages the technical aspect of the P3 including implementation, maintenance, pool creation, targeted recruitment blasts, and setting up Human Resource contacts for access.
    • Advises appropriate parties of employee or candidate concerns and directs them to the most appropriate party for resolution.
    • Partners with Pokagon Band Enrollment and Education departments to engage with citizenry turning 18 years of age, graduating from High School or completing college to assess interest in Pokagon entity career opportunities, and connect them to an entity that best suits their goals.
    • Plans and facilitates entity-wide career pathway events.
    • Refines and shapes the Liaison position and operates with a degree of autonomy to make informed decisions and drive initiatives.
    • Immerses themselves into each of the Pokagon Entities’ departments to understand what each job entails and the realistic expectations of the positions to help appropriately connect preference talent.
    • Refers in depth inquires on career opportunities, to the appropriate Pokagon entity HR Department.


Non-Essential Functions:

    • Represents and promotes Pokagon Band at a variety of functions.
    • Perform other related functions as assigned.


Equipment:

    • Standard office equipment 
    • Systems used: MS Office Applications, HRIS/ATS Systems, and additional systems as needed.

 

Position Requirements: 

    • Associates’ degree in Business, Marketing, Human Resources or related field. Two (2) years of relevant experience in lieu of degree may be accepted or a combination of both education and experience. Degree must be from an accredited institution whose program of study has been recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the United States Department of Education. 
    • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in business, human resources, marketing/networking, or a related field is required.
    • Experience managing a database or HRIS Systems and being technically savvy with computer programs is required.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet insurance requirements to utilize Pokagon Band vehicles. 
    • Intermediate skills with MS Office Applications required.
    • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills; and the ability to speak effectively before groups of employees and respond to questions required.

Physical Requirements: 

    • Work is generally sedentary in nature and will frequently require sitting, however standing and walking will occasionally be necessary.
    • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment. 
    • Frequently required to talk and hear. 


Work Environment:

    • General office environment. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
    • Local travel is necessary, so the ability to travel as needed is required.
