___________________________________________

XDS is seeking a hands-on Bike Service Specialist to support our warehouse-based service operations in Downey, California, with occasional work at our Santa Monica office. This role is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and preparing X-LAB bicycles; including returned bikes, warranty units, demo bikes, event bikes, and internal fleet bikes, as well as supporting daily warranty and service-parts fulfillment. The ideal candidate is an experienced bicycle mechanic who takes pride in safe, precise work and can bring a bike from uncertain condition back to a documented, presentation-ready standard.

What You’ll Do:

Returned Bike Inspection and Repair

  • Receive and inspect returned, exchanged, and warranty bicycles; document serial numbers, condition, missing parts, damage, and reported concerns, and diagnose mechanical, electrical, assembly, and cosmetic issues.

  • Support remote diagnostics and damage assessments using dealer and rider descriptions, photos, videos, and reports; recommend troubleshooting, repair, parts replacement, or in-person inspection.

  • Determine whether each bicycle should be repaired, refurbished, used for parts, or escalated for safety, structural, warranty, or disposition review.

  • Complete repairs and component replacements involving drivetrains, hydraulic brakes, wheels, cockpits, bearings, electronic shifting, e-bike systems, and related components.

  • Perform final safety checks, functional tests, firmware updates, and test rides when appropriate before release.

Refurbishment and Cosmetic Reconditioning

  • Clean, detail, touch up, and recondition approved bicycles for resale, demo, training, or internal use, including replacement of presentation-critical decals, bar tape, grips, hardware, and related parts.

  • Grade completed bicycles consistently and document their condition and all work performed.

  • Escalate any damage that may affect carbon-fiber structure, safety, warranty disposition, or resale classification rather than attempting an unauthorized repair.

Demo, Event, and Marketing Fleet Support

  • Assemble, tune, configure, and prepare demo and show bicycles for trade shows, dealer events, media activities, product launches, and employee use.

  • Pack and unpack event bikes carefully and account for each bicycle, accessory, battery, charger, tool, and transport case.

  • Inspect and service bikes promptly after events and provide occasional local event setup, teardown, transportation, or on-site mechanical support as needed.

Warranty and Service Parts Fulfillment

  • Locate, identify, verify, pick, pack, and prepare warranty and service parts for daily shipment, confirming part numbers, model compatibility, quantities, shipping details, and request documentation.

  • Create or apply shipping labels, update tracking records, and promptly communicate shortages, damage, identification issues, substitutions, or required escalation.

  • Maintain organized parts locations and accurate inventory by reporting discrepancies and properly handling returned or reusable components.

Documentation and Quality Feedback

  • Maintain accurate service records, repair notes, photos, parts usage, labor time, bike status, and shipment information in company systems.

  • Keep the service area, tools, return inventory, warranty parts, reusable components, bicycles, and batteries organized and properly handled.

  • Identify recurring failures, shipping damage, and assembly issues; provide clear feedback to After-Sales, Product, Quality, Warehouse, and China HQ teams and help improve inspection, repair, and refurbishment procedures.

  • Follow torque specifications, manufacturer procedures, battery-handling requirements, and workplace safety practices.

You’re a Great Fit With:

  • 3+ years of professional bicycle mechanic or service technician experience, ideally in a high-volume shop, manufacturer, distributor, race, demo, or warranty environment.

  • Proficiency with hydraulic disc brakes, drivetrain setup, wheel service, torque-controlled assembly, electronic shifting, and bicycle diagnostics.

  • Experience evaluating bicycle damage and making careful, safety-first repair decisions.

  • High attention to detail in both mechanical work and cosmetic presentation.

  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple bikes and move work efficiently from intake through final inspection.

  • Ability to accurately identify bicycle components, locate service parts, and complete routine pick-pack-ship tasks in a warehouse environment.

  • Comfort assisting with remote troubleshooting and assessing mechanical or cosmetic damage from written information, photos, videos, and diagnostic reports.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to document technical findings with photos and concise notes.

  • Ability to safely lift and move complete bicycles, shipping cartons, workstands, and related equipment up to 50 pounds.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally between the Downey warehouse and Santa Monica office and to support local event or fleet transportation needs.

You’re a Spectacular Fit With:

  • Bosch, Shimano STEPS, SRAM, or other e-bike/electronic system training or certification.

  • Carbon bicycle inspection, paint touch-up, detailing, or refurbishment experience.

  • Familiarity with Zendesk, Airtable, inventory systems, or service-management platforms.

  • English/Mandarin bilingual ability.

Success Metrics

  • Returned bikes are inspected promptly and assigned a clear, documented disposition.

  • Repairs and refurbishments are completed safely, accurately, and with minimal repeat work.

  • Demo and event bikes arrive clean, functional, complete, and ready on schedule.

  • Service records and parts usage remain accurate and current.

  • Daily warranty and service-parts requests are located, packed, shipped, and documented accurately and promptly.

  • Remote diagnostic and damage-assessment findings are clear, practical, and properly escalated when an in-person inspection is required.

  • Recurring product and shipping issues are identified early and communicated clearly to the appropriate teams.

  • The service workspace, tools, bikes, batteries, and components remain organized and properly handled.
