Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and indirect physical therapy services as outlined in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Section 504 plans.
- Conduct assessments of gross motor skills, functional mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and postural control for students referred for special education evaluation to help determine eligibility for services.
- Participate in the IEP/Section 504 process, providing input on assessment measures, intervention strategies, and student progress.
- Collaborate as a member of the special education team to deliver comprehensive services to students with disabilities.
- Consult with teachers, school administrators, parents, and relevant stakeholders regarding students’ physical development, mobility needs, and accessibility accommodations.
- Work closely with teachers and staff to integrate physical therapy strategies into the school environment and support students' participation in academic and non-academic activities.
- Provide training to staff and caregivers on safe and effective positioning, transfers, adaptive equipment use, and mobility strategies.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust physical therapy interventions in collaboration with school staff and parents.
- Utilize treatment strategies that promote functional mobility, strength, balance, endurance, coordination, and overall independence in the school setting.
- Recommend, modify, and monitor adaptive equipment and assistive devices to enhance students' physical access and participation.
- Maintain an accurate record of student caseload requirements and update the Special Education Administrator on any changes.
- Maintain a detailed schedule and service logs, and track student progress toward therapy goals.
- Demonstrate professionalism in handling confidential matters and materials.
- Pursue ongoing professional development to stay informed about current practices and research in school-based physical therapy.
Qualifications:
- Physical Therapist License issued by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
- Relevant experience in school settings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of individualized education plans (IEPs) and commitment to student success.
