Environmental Protection Specialist Mid-Level

Overview

Chenega Integrated Security Solutions (CISS) is seeking a motivated and detail-oreiented Environmental Protection Specialist, Mid-Level will assist in supporting a valued government customer in Huntsville, Alabama by helping develop, maintain, and oversee environmental compliance programs. This position supports environmental inspections, regulatory compliance efforts, environmental data analysis, hazardous materials and waste management activities, and program improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on environmental compliance experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to support multiple environmental programs while helping ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and promoting environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities

• Support one or more environmental programs managed by FBI Environmental Protection Services.
• Assist with planning, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating, and providing technical guidance for environmental protection programs.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify environmental non-compliance issues, including areas related to RCRA, Title V air requirements, and NPDES water permit requirements.
• Provide environmental regulatory compliance guidance for assigned environmental programs.
• Assist with the collection of NPDES stormwater, RCRA, lead, asbestos, and other environmental samples as required.
• Support internal and external inspections, including ISO 14001, Environmental Performance Assessment System inspections, and inspections conducted by state and federal agencies.
• Assist with preparation for inspections conducted by agencies such as the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and the Environmental Protection Agency.
• Review inspection findings and recommend corrective actions to resolve deficiencies.
• Interpret and evaluate environmental data and recommend operational changes or projects to support compliance.
• Provide technical support related to assigned environmental programs
• Input data and create profiles within hazardous materials and hazardous waste systems. Draft environmental management policies and provide program support related to environmental compliance, natural resource protection, public safety, and hazardous materials and waste management.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a similar related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental compliance.
• Active Top Secret clearance required
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Experience supporting environmental inspections, compliance reviews, or environmental program activities.
• Experience supporting environmental compliance programs for a federal agency or government customer.
• Familiarity with RCRA, Title V air requirements, NPDES water permits, ISO 14001, or EPAS inspections.
• Experience working with hazardous materials or hazardous waste tracking systems.
• Experience coordinating with environmental regulatory agencies.
• Ability to assist with hazardous materials and hazardous waste management.
• Successfully pass a background check and drug screening

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and data entry systems.

• While performing the job duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, communicate, and use hands and fingers to operate computers, tools, and testing equipment. The position may require climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, reaching, and navigating indoor and outdoor work areas during inspections and site assessments. The employee must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and perform field activities involving environmental sampling, inspections, and compliance evaluations.

• The employee will routinely work in a temperature-controlled office setting and may also conduct inspections and assessments in industrial, construction, operational, and outdoor environments. Field work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, dust, noise, hazardous materials, hazardous waste storage areas, chemicals, fumes, and other environmental conditions requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Occasional local or regional travel may be required in support of inspections, compliance reviews, training activities, and customer requirements.
