Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours worked – and have every other Friday off

 

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supplier Development Engineer to support our newly formed Integrated Supplier Team (IST). This role requires individuals with strong engineering expertise, supplier performance management experience, and advanced technical problem‑solving abilities to drive supplier excellence and ensure warfighter success. You will serve as the primary technical liaison between internal engineering teams and critical suppliers to ensure program execution, advance process improvements, and meet customer expectations across major defense programs.

The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of engineering, supplier management, project leadership, and technical issue resolution. This role leads complex, high‑impact initiatives with minimal oversight, influences cross‑functional teams and suppliers, and drives improvements in processes, systems, and products. Additionally, this position supports new product and process development while executing operational plans that deliver measurable business results.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
• Communicate, interpret, and translate complex technical data packages (TDPs) and drawing requirements for suppliers.
• Lead supplier engagements to assess manufacturing capability, capacity, opportunities, and technical risks.
• Oversee and resolve issues related to nonconforming products, including leading Material Review Board (MRB) activities to disposition hardware.
• Implement root‑cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive measures to resolve quality issues and improve supplier processes.
• Manage supplier product and process change requests, particularly those supporting production ramp‑up.
• Perform technical evaluations of supplier proposals in support of cost and price analysis.
• Partner closely with internal Design, Project, and Manufacturing Engineering teams—as well as Supplier Quality and Subcontracts Managers—to provide immediate support for technical issues impacting yield, quality, and schedule.
• Report supplier technical health, risks, and performance metrics to internal stakeholders.
• Field position with travel requirement: 25%–75%, depending on location. Priority locations: Lincoln, Nebraska, Tucson, AZ, or Hunting Beach, CA

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Qualifications / Additional Skills
• Advanced problem‑solving skills using DMAIC, 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys, and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA).
• Proficiency with engineering software and advanced skills in Microsoft Office 365.
• Familiarity with advanced aerospace materials such as composites, high‑temperature/refractory materials, and elastomers/Thermal Protection Systems (TPS).
• Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for design evaluation and drawing interpretation.
• Entrepreneurial mindset, high energy, and professionalism, with a passion for developing supplier capabilities.
• Certifications such as Lean Green Belt or Six Sigma Black Belt.
• Comfort working with data analytics and emerging digital tools, including AI‑enabled solutions, to accelerate problem solving, interpret complex data sets, and drive continuous improvement in supplier performance.
• Ability to mentor and guide suppliers and cross‑functional teams effectively.
• Direct experience with Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) components, Divert and Attitude Control Systems (DACS), or missile defense systems.
• Master’s degree in Engineering Management or a related discipline.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed supplier health reports, manage supplier relations, and present technical findings to internal stakeholders.
• Ability to organize and lead technical discussions, working sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, as required.
