Job Description:

 

The Specialist Mechanical Design Engineering rolefocuses on the component and system level design of vectoring flexseal nozzles for Solid Propulsion Systems. The position requires proficient knowledge in the area of solid rocket motor nozzle design, ballistics,  elastomer and ablative materials, and nozzle manufacturing techniques. This position requires the ability to work under general supervision in defining objectives, determining technical approaches, delegating tasks, and reviewing deliverables.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
  • Lead mechanical design efforts for solid rocket motor flexseal nozzles, propulsion systems, and related components.
  • Develop design concepts, 3D models, and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Perform trade studies and prepare component specifications and procedures.
  • Coordinate with analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, quality, and customer support teams.
  • Plan and execute design assignments within an Integrated Product Team environment.
  • Support production activities on the shop floor and at supplier locations.
  • Address nonconforming hardware, support process planning and production reviews, and ensure design requirements are met through supplier coordination.
  • Support engineering drawing and specification updates through configuration control boards.
  • Support environmental and qualification testing, including pathfinder, subscale, component, and system-level tests.
  • Prepare and present technical presentations and engineering reports for internal and external stakeholders.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in vectoring flexseal nozzle design, manufacturing and test.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred.
  • Knowledge of solid propulsion systems design and manufacturing methods.
  • Knowledge and experience in strategic booster motors, tactical rocket motors, controllable solids systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with CAD software tools (CREO), and PLM Systems (Windchill), engineering drawing and GD&T application experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
