Overview

The Insurance Follow-up Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Insurance Follow-up Team within the Physician Services Revenue Cycle Department. This role ensures timely follow-up on outstanding insurance claims, proper resolution of denials, and compliance with payer guidelines. The Insurance Follow-up Supervisor monitors staff productivity, provides training, and works to improve reimbursement processes and reduce claim aging.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma/GED required. Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred. Billing Specialist Certification or Applicable College Course preferred.

Experience: 3 – 5 years of experience in medical billing, insurance follow-up, or revenue cycle management. 1–2 years of supervisory or team-lead experience preferred. Strong knowledge of insurance claim processing, denial management, and payer guidelines. Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding basics. Proven applicable experience working in an environment that utilizes electronic billing, internal report archives, and tools for applicable database management. GPMS experience strongly preferred.

Additional Skills/Abilities: Proficient knowledge within Excel, Word, and Outlook and/or Zimbra. Effective communication skills verbally and written with internal Hospital departments, Physician Offices, Patients, as well as external customers. Ability to effectively plan, organizes, and prioritizes while working independently and efficiently supervising a large volume of accounts and staff. Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with spreadsheets and reporting tools. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance within the industry. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Leadership and team management. Proven applicable experience of preparing complex correspondence to resolve accounts. Working knowledge of the payer guidelines, state, and federal laws concerning collection activities.
