Position Overview

As a Satellite Operations Manager (SOM), you will lead all activities within the Service Operations Department, managing Inventory, Mechanical, Service, and Supply Associates (excluding vehicle reconditioning). In this senior leadership role, you’ll drive operational excellence, mentor teams, and collaborate with Sales, Business Office, Purchasing, and Logistics to deliver an Iconic Customer Experience. Your ability to optimize processes, achieve key performance goals, and foster associate development will ensure success in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Service Operations teams, ensuring efficiency in automotive service and vehicle transfers.
  • Achieve and exceed Retail Service goals.
  • Maintain or surpass Satellite Key Performance Measurements (KPMs) and identify opportunities to reduce waste.
  • Recruit, train, and develop associates, foster engagement and career growth.
  • Collaborate with senior management to set strategy and implement company initiatives for consistent execution.
  • Mentor associates through observations and feedback, promoting continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Responsible for the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) program for your department and/or location, including but not limited to self-inspections, hazardous waste disposal, workplace safety, and PPE.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, interpret, and maintain accurate records for operational reporting.
  • Completion of CarMax-provided training in Inventory, Supply, Mechanical Repair, and Service processes.
  • Strong ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-energy environment and make sound business decisions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction across departments.
  • Flexibility to work rotating schedules, including weekends and holidays, and travel occasionally for meetings and training.
  • Comfortable working in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and relocate as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of management experience, retail management preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency for operational tasks.
