Job Purpose/Description

The Supplemental Instruction Leader will serve as a role model student, facilitate Supplementary Instruction sessions and discussions, and push students to higher levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy.
Subjects needed: BIO2510: Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2, Foundations in Biology

Job Duties

Facilitate sessions (1-2 times/week) to guide students through the course content for the assigned course.
Attend lectures for the assigned course
Support faculty’s messaging and content to help students use the language of the discipline and discuss concepts in a supportive environment.
Create materials and design learning activities to reinforce course content.
Provide general academic success strategies and serve as a role model student.
Communicate clearly with the class verbally and through email.
Attend all initial training (roughly 4 hours) and ongoing team meetings (roughly 8 hrs).
Meet regularly with faculty and the program coordinator to debrief, set goals, and plan sessions.
Complete necessary paperwork (attendance sheets, timesheet, sign-in sheets, and evaluations).
Maintain confidentiality.
Other duties may be assigned and/or necessary.

Required Qualifications

Must be a current CSS student.
Federal work study eligibility preferred.
Must have mastery of a specific course (BIO2510/BIO2520).
Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Professional poise to represent the College.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Comfort with public speaking and presenting.
Strong service orientation and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people in a friendly, professional manner.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Job functions require sitting, standing, and walking during shifts.
Ability to perform all of the above functions during an assigned workday without significant risk of injury.

Preferred Qualifications

Special Instructions to Applicants

SI Leader appointments are for one full academic year, excluding summer sessions.
Each course listed above will have two SI leaders who collaborate to prepare and facilitate sessions.
