Assistant Softball Coach

College of St. Scholastica, a NCAA Division III institution and a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) is seeking applications for a Softball Assistant Coach. Responsibilities of Assistant Coach will include, but are not limited to, recruitment of qualified student-athletes, on-field instruction for practice and games, scouting opponents and game film preparation, camp organization and direction, along with other assigned duties. Successful candidates must have strong interpersonal communication skills, display an understanding of NCAA Division III rules and carry the ability to maintain professional conduct while acting as a role model for the student-athletes.

This is a ten-month salaried position reporting to the Head Softball Coach. The Assistant Softball Coach will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the softball program with a focus on the retention and success of current student-athletes.


Job Summary:

The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for teaching and coaching student-athletes in order to develop and acquire the extensive tactical, technical and physical knowledge required to be a competitive Division III intercollegiate level student-athlete. In this role, you will assist the head coach in skill evaluation, instruction, planning, organization, and supervision of individual and team practices and intercollegiate athletic competitions.


Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in the instruction of student athletes in the sport of softball

  • Assist in organizing, preparing and conducting practices, training, and competition

  • Recruit student-athletes in accordance with all The College of Saint Scholastica (CSS), Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), and NCAA rules and regulations

  • Assist with the holistic development of softball student-athletes

  • Represent the program and CSS to students, parents, alumni, and the general public

  • Assist in managing the daily operations and administration facets of the softball program

  • Assist in social media and work with the sports information office.

  • Knowledge of Front Rush and/or other recruiting software.

  • Ability to effectively recruit a wide array of diverse student-athletes

  • Assist in all duties as assigned by the Head Coach or the Director of Athletics

  • Appreciation of and working with a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial, and ethnic backgrounds

  • Secondary responsibilities in the department as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree is required/Master’s degree preferred.

  • This position requires a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and must be insurable by the College's insurance carrier.

  • One or more years coaching experience at the high school and/or collegiate level; collegiate playing and/or managerial experience is preferred but not required.

  • Strong teaching background in the offensive hitting and outfield positioning aspect of the game

  • Strong teaching and coaching skills 

  • Extremely detail oriented,  great at administrative tasks.

  • Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Must communicate effectively with all types of people, and establish and maintain a strong working relationship with students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and other college personnel.

  • Must have the ability to work responsibly with minimal supervision.

  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications

  • Statistical analysis experience, proficiency in softball statistical software.  Knowledge and experience with video editing software, Adobe Photoshop and social media platforms.

  • Commitment to the student-athlete experience, passion for the game, and ability to coach and motivate.
